I carry an AR-15 in my truck at all times. When I go into town I often throw a t-shirt over it. The only time I make a big effort to make sure it's concealed is if I'll be going into a store for more than a couple minutes. I've had interactions with the sheriff's deputies and never had a single problem. Here's a photo of my truck gun: http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=27466" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As was noted on another forum today, the graveyard shift and the bad parts of town are where the rookies are assigned, and they are likely to be more gung-ho and at the same time less versed in the law. At 3:30 AM in an urban area the LEO sees the worst part of society, so I imagine even the level-headed veteran is on edge then.
It's an attitude crapshoot if you have an encounter.

Just a thought - try the nice guy approach - if you see him again ask "Hey, officer, would you like to try it out on the range sometime?" It's always good to have LEO's on your side!

I bet he already owns one, but thinks you/non-LEO should not.

But if it happens again, I agree, engage him in conversation.
You may have an interest in common.

For that matter, you can legally carry it around (anywhere not prohibited by law) as long as you do so in a manner not calculated to incite alarm.

You can conceal it if you like....or put it right up on the dash. Naturally, you'll want to make certain the weapon is secure (in case you were in an accident).

Is this happening in Lufkin or Nac?

in corrigan, I just want to be sure I plan out what to do just on the off chance something were to happen. I was just concerned.
Well........that explains it! ;-)

Just be careful not to exceed the speed limit there by any more than 1/4 mph. :roll:

I'm sure you already know about Corrigan and the 4-5 speed limit changes within one mile.
