Took a first timer

Post by Bonc_CHL »

So today I was able to take my Dad and my younger cousin to the range, Until today my cousin had only shot a BB gun.
Had a very nice afternoon at Eagle Peak.
Started the cousin out with a 10/22 and let him go at that for a while, then a few .22 revolvers, and the I slid on over to his bench and let him blast a few out of the Hi-point 9mm, after he was comfortable with that, and I was able to put the XD down, I let him throw a few out of it.

All in all very nice day, He was already talking about when we could go again and that he wanted to save up for a gun!!!

Glad I got to send a few out of my XD today too... don't have a lot of trigger time on it yet!

I commend you for taking the right approach, you obviously gave some good verbal training prior to shooting.

We have had more than a few posts (myself included) of some not as enjoyable outings. Some funny, some just downright scarey. Check out the "Never Again" sub-forum.

Some of the posts might make you laugh, others you may cry. But each is an educational moment.

Sounds like your's went well. Good going!

That sounds like a great trip! I went home (MO) over Turkey day and got to take my 14yr old cousin shooting. Prior to our outing he had only shot a .410 shotty. So, I took him on a ride into the woods got to an open area and a berm. The entire way we talked safety, safety, safety. So by the time we got there we could slowly start shootin. Let him shot one round at a time for a while then explained the semi-auto thing and let him shoot two. Then kept going from there. He did great and had a big 'ol grin on his face the entire resrt of the day!

He was shooting my 1911 .45

Glad you got some time on your XD they are great guns! What kind of XD do you have?
