You may recall me asking for input on a Marlin rifle last month.... Well, I got another gift card that would cover the cost less taxes, so I decided that it was fate.

Picked myself up a 795 today, and it was actually on sale again, down to 109. No funds left my account at all, but I got the rifle, some ammo and some accessories, and they 'paid' me $1.67 back.

I like that kinda deal! Gonna go clean the packing goo out of it and hopefully get to a range before they close.

Marlin has a $20 mail in rebate on that rifle too. i haven't sent mine in yet.

Yeah, I knew about the rebate but couldn't remember how long it was. An extra 20 bucks couldn't hurt.

So, for a quickie range report....

I made it in time to put about 250 rounds downrange. The Marlin is a joy to shoot, and reminded me of days from my youth when the family would load up the .22s and plink our way through many 500 round bricks of ammo.

Out of the box accuracy was fantastic, even off-hand with no sling.

The 795 is a great little gun, and while there may not be the limitless mods available (a la the Ruger 10/22), there are still options, and the price point is fantastic.
