It sounded like LEO showed up quickly. So ...you were a good witness and the LEO was there to catch the perp so I don't see the issue of "nothing being done" but I understand the anxiety that LEO may not show up for a long time and the perp gets away but that was not the case here, but I realize that's "monday morning quarterbacking."

Thanks again for your intregity in posting for we're all ready to learn from reading these great posts as opposed to learning the hard way in the real world of split second decision-making. God Bless.
How was he a good witness? If you read the op because the trash had been picked up prior to the Leo getting there no action was taken. If our friend had simply observed and documented then action could have been taken against the lowlife dumper. The only good thing that came out of this thing was that the trash got picked up. Of course I would be willing to bet it was just dumped somewhere else.

So if he hadnt got involved and had taped the man with his cell phone and called the cops, he could have got a conviction. Instead he almost shot a guy, and risked jail time.
Also he might have ruined that police officers view of CHLers

It may have been wiser to take pics with a cell phone, get the vehicle plate numbers, and turn him in that way.

You deserve nothing but the honest truth.

You failed miserably! How can you place the lives of your wife and daughter in danger like that?

You should have taken a description and plates and continued to church to thank the good Lord your alive.

There's a tactful way to tell the "honest truth" for this is a place to learn from our mistakes. Without tactfullness the "truth" will go out the window and we'll instead focus on being defensive and the all too familiar :mad5 flame wars. :mad5 ;-)

priusron has not posted since the 21st. The errors he made have been pointed out repeatedly. I do hope that he remains a contributor here, but I fear we may have alienated him.

I would suggest that if you have nothing new to contribute that we stop 'piling on'.

I was beginning to think the same thing. I almost wish I had just left it alone after my first post in this thread.

Fortunately we live in American :)
You have your opinion and i have mine.

This is a good thread. If any "antis" ever read through this, there can be no mistake that we disapprove of this kind of behavior.

Glad to hear no one was hurt and no one was charged or went to jail. I hope you learned something from this lesson. Life is full of lessons. I strongly agree with Dicion and the others above. Drawing made you the bad guy. It gave the other guy reason to fear for his life and take necessary action if he was so inclined. I think you crossed the line into LE duties. I think the responding SO had probable cause to take you in.

May you have a wonderful and prosperous New Year.

Sorry to arrive late and jump on this bandwagon, but I can't keep my thoughts to myself as this is a sample of the type of insane scenarios that will hurt gun rights in the long run. Too many people feeling as if the weapon is now a license to police, or a solution to every problem they encounter. This is a mundane situation that could have certainly been handled by a simple phone call to the police as the op drove off. Why would anyone put a family in harm's way over something like this? What if the "perp" knew the property owner? What if the "perp" had been with friends who come upon the scene and see the op pointing a gun at him? Would the op head back to church and feel comfortable with the burden of killing a man over a littering confrontation?

I am very happy with the apparent consensus of the group and would urge anyone who does not see any issue with the OPs actions to read some of the many books on concealed carrying and to build a personal philosophy for pulling the pistol.

My gun is only to be used when I have no choice in defending my family from imminent death, and it will never be drawn without being fired. My phone , my fists, and me feet will handle all the other problems.

You pulled a firearm on a guy for dumping trash? Perhaps it's time for you to retake the CHL LEGAL portion.
This is unquestionably the worst example of the use of the CHL, and should be documented as such, and possibly used as an example in CHL classes of a very good way to go to jail, get shot, and get sued.

Right, but you instigated, and escalated the situation from a civil matter, to a lethal matter.

Are we really going to draw comparisons from trash dumping to the genocide of millions of Jews?

Yep...we have about pounded the OP into submission at this point. Maybe it should be locked before the guy decides to never come back again. I don't think anyone wants to run him off. :iagree:
