Guys,
I guess I could do some research, but I'm too lazy. My question is, can a "banned" gun be (legally) driven across the CA border? I'm reasonably sure that my LCP and Bersa UC9 are on their naughty list.
I have no reason to go to California, I'm just curious what would happen if a person started shooting a banned gun at a range in CA; would it be like pulling out a bag of weed, or do people routinely show off the guns they got when they took a trip to the Alamo?

Re: shooting in California
The Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 guarantees your right to transport a gun (unloaded and locked in the trunk) from any place you may legally possess it, to any other location where you may legally possess it. California is generally a destination, not a through state, but I suppose if you were in Nevada or Arizona and were headed to Oregon or Washington, your route might take you through California. In that case, you'd be covered.
Huh? Californians, like anyone else living outside Texas, can't legally buy handguns in Texas.Embalmo wrote:I have no reason to go to California, I'm just curious what would happen if a person started shooting a banned gun at a range in CA; would it be like pulling out a bag of weed, or do people routinely show off the guns they got when they took a trip to the Alamo?

Now did you see me use the word "legally" when referring to getting a gun in Texas? I'm not talking about driving through, I'm talking about taking my Bersa UC9 into a shooting range in California. When I go to Red's, or Eagle Peak, no one looks at the guns that I take into the range; is there an inspector that checks magazines, and gun models? Re: shooting in California
You're probably better off asking a California legal question on a California board but there's a bunch of FAQ pages on the California DOJ Bureau of Firearms website. http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not lawfully prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person provided the firearm is unloaded and stored in a locked container.
The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026.1.

It's my understanding that pulling out a bag-o-weed is common place in CA. Oohhh, my bunion hurts. Gotta get some medicinal weed.

I have been there shooting range and spoke to the owner. I showed him my Dan Wesson and he told me it could not be sold in California but it was okay for me to shoot it in California.
