Re: Taking my CHL class tomorrow
Definetely have your gun primed and ready to go (unloaded for course). Prepare for a 10 hour lesson that will be fun and informative (depending on the instructor).
Don't sweat the written test (but pay attention to all of the information). Dont sweat the shooting test, but look around and count the number of folks that probably shouldn't be there (meaning they should have more remedial type training)
Oh yea, and prepare for the weird space time continuum change that occurs when you submit your paperwork. It will take (no matter how long it actually does take) FOREVER.
And finally, you WILL memorize your DL number and other information and visit this site (it will actually be bookmarked) 20 times a day: https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NAS ... AppManager" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And then the day will come when it will show application completed and you WILL jump out of your chair and do the snoopy happy dance.

I hope you'll be at an indoor range. Its easier to hit the target when your hands aren't shaking.jmdevera wrote:Finally taking my class tomorrow!

You'll do fine on both parts, classroom and proficiency. Pay attention in class.
After class do not be in a rush to mail the packet in. Review it carefully on Sunday and Monday. Rushing to send it in has caused a LOT of people to omit some critical information that caused them weeks...sometimes months delay.
If you've ever been arrested and booked, I strongly recommend you get a certified copy of the "disposition" of infraction and send it with your application packet.
Finally, read and re-read this thread:

Good luck on the test!

Good point. Go over every part of it to make sure every box is filled in.joe817 wrote:

Something as minor as forgetting to indicate..male or female can cause a delay.

Seriously, if you are in my class tomorrow, dress warm. We shoot outdoors. No wimpy indoor range for us!
Ar least... not yet.... More to come later on that topic!

Oh yea, DEFINTELY make sure that all of your information is filled in. This forum is littered with "forgot this" type comments for not filling out the form....and dont rely 100% on the instructor to complete it correctly for you.

Re: Taking my CHL class tomorrow
I took Crossfire's class just a little over a year ago and was pretty chilly/windy at the range.
After the class I had her review my paperwork, I went OVER and OVER it myself...I thought that I had it ALL filled out correctly...I didn't...I'm really glad I had her review, she found one little thing that I didn't fill out (so small I can't even recall what it was)...saved me time/trouble for sure! My dad took the class as well and didn't have his paperwork reviewed, he booked on home...he sent it in and he missed something as well, it caused a bit of delay in his CHL, but he did get it.
For the shooting...just relax and shoot naturally and you'll do fine.

Re: Taking my CHL class tomorrow
Justin - might I suggest some gloves for you? I've got a pair of Backcountry gloves, I won them at a 4x4 raffle, but I would bet/guess that Bass Pro/Academy would have them or similar, nothing worse than cold hands! They're rugged/warm enough yet thin enough to offer what I consider enough dexterity to shoot with. I prefer to wear these over my big ski gloves...easier to drive with them (I drive a Jeep Wrangler, takes awhile to get warm in there!) and handle a gun if needed.
Re: Taking my CHL class tomorrow
Don't forget you're going to have pictures taken...
And don't sweat the range test or written test. They are both super easy. Just pay attention in class and listen to the instructions carefully for the shooting portion.
Edit: and if you get a class with a lot of dead time waiting on people to get printed and shoot, read through the booklet with the laws in it. Most of the test questions come directly out of it and it isn't that long.
