Like it often does on social issues, Snopes missed the boat.

Re: Defying Gravity
Snopes is a husband and wife team in CA. They can't possibly 100% it.
An estimated 60-80 % of black thugs are on the down low part time.
I if had to pack a gun wearing pants like that, my biggest concern would be finding an IWB holster that would work pulling rear guard duty.

Thanks for the trip...down memory lane. BTW, "Stringbean" was murdered in his driveway in Madison, TN some 50 years ago.Keith B wrote:These 'bangers think they have started the fad of the low hanging pants. However, for those of you that remember Hee Haw, it was actually started by David 'Stringbean' Akeman.![]()
Re: Defying Gravity
Actually, the murder was on 11/10/73 - that would make it just over 36 years. If it had been 50 years ago, I wouldn't have remembered seeing him on HeeHaw.

Thank you for looking it up. I thought the same.

Re: Defying Gravity
Wow, I didn't remember that. Interesting piece of trivia. Wonder if some thugs sho thought he was from a rival gang do to his low-riders and shot him??Oldgringo wrote:Keith B wrote: BTW, "Stringbean" was murdered in his driveway in Madison, TN some 50 years ago.

Thanks for the clarification. Time just flies when you're having as fun as I do.ninemm wrote:Actually, the murder was on 11/10/73 - that would make it just over 36 years. If it had been 50 years ago, I wouldn't have remembered seeing him on HeeHaw.

Hee Haw reruns, one of TV's best programs, is still available on RFD TV if you have DISH TV.

Re: Defying Gravity
I always surmised that it started out with "hand-me-downs". Growing up, I remember how younger kids always ended up with oversized clothing from their older brothers due to poverty and such. Sagging was minor then compared to this obvious pants around your legs thing. Now I always see guys running around with circus tents for t-shirts and sleeping bags for pant legs.
The prison thing is interesting.

Re: Defying Gravity
Well, you learn something new every day. For me, it's usually on this forum.
Soooo now that we are clearly aware - (more so than some of the "saggers" mentioned) -
of the statement the droopy pants wearing crowd is "putting out", I hope someone will verify that an untucked shirt (cover garment anyone?) does not send out any messages we are not aware of.
Heaven forbid we all have to switch to "manbags" to avoid confusion.
Perhaps it's time to fish the old fanny pack "out of the closet" - there's probably a better way to phrase that.

Untucked shirts send out no unwanted messages.

I used to live down the street from Lulu Roman. Why it wasn't Gunilla Hutton (Nurse Goodbody) tells you the kind of luck I always seem to have.Oldgringo wrote:Thanks for the clarification. The 30 Deep Gang scores again, the busted. More droopy pants. And now, some worried faces.

I never developed an appreciation for rap music. But, no pun intended, I can appreciate this little ditty. If Neil Young cover it, I might by the album. Or CD or whatever they're called these days.:

This guy is gonna get recorded as he has gotten a TON of supporters after his American Idol audition was aired. One of our radio stations in the DFW area did some remixes in country, rock and hip-hop. Pretty funny. Even Jimmy Fallon did a parody on it as Neil Young.

Back on topic, I think the big thing this shows is that many of the folks in the black community really think these guys are stupid and idiotic and nothing but thugs.

I like the cut of your jib.ninemm wrote:Quite a while back I was driving through downtown Dallas on Lamar Street and was about to cross Commerce Street when I noticed three guys with "lowrider" pants in my path ahead "cool walking" and crossing against the light. I pretended not to see them and used the console mounted parking brake to lock up my back wheels, causing the tires to squeal loudly. This got their attention and all three took off to get out of the street. One of them had his pants fall down around his ankles and went down. I think he realized what I had done as he scrambled to get his pants pulled up and take in after me. As my car was an underpowered 4 cylinder, he durn nearly caught me. I might not do that again.
