Good price for 1980s S&W model 60 .38 spl

Post by A-R »

Looking for quick response if anyone is familiar. Need to make a decision and call seller back soon. Is $350 a good price in today's market for a well used but good condition 1980s vintage Smith & Wesson Model 60 stainless .38 special? Old LEO backup gun most likely.

Appreciate quick response if anyone knows pricing for this.

Thanks

Here's one advertised in the Gun Directory for $623.00 :

http://www.gundirectory.com/more.asp?gi ... n=Revolver" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'll say you've got a good deal! If I had that offered to me I'd jump on that like a frog on a june bug!

Thanks Joe. But this is only a .38 special not a .357 Mag like most of the new Model 60s seem to be. Also, same gun is $100 cheaper here ... http://www.gtdist.com/ProductDetail.asp ... =SW-162420" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If this was a .357 I would've given him $350, a firm handshake, and a thank you without a second thought. But for a .38 only, not as sure. I think it's still a decent deal, but not a "steal" and I don't really "need" it right now so I might pass. Trying to find what one of these goes for new in .38 only (if they even make it in that).

I know being a "pre-lock" version helps too. But what else should I consider?

ar, honestly I'm out of my league on this one. I just know value when I see it. Smith's always command good prices...even the .38 spcl. If I had that offer for me personally, I'd buy it as an investment depending on the quality, and available funds. I'd take that risk. But don't buy it on my recommendation alone. To me that sounds like a good deal.

That one IS in .38 spcl. :lol: :oops:

made him an offer for what I'd be willing to pay for the gun. he said he'd since had a few other calls on it, and we agreed he'd check back with those folks and get back to me before end of the day.

Just not exactly the gun I want, though I think it is a decent deal. If he accepts my lower offer I'll definitely take it.

One of Joe's links said this gun was discontinued as a .38 in 1996, which makes sense. Only new S&W close to it would be a Model 36 "classic" which seems sort of a collectible older-style J-frame, with a $500-$600 price. But I don't think this gun would match that gun for collectibility. Doc540 just sold a beautiful older Model 36 here on the site (asking $450) http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=30769" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but this gun isn't nearly that pretty or collectible.

Anyway, see what happens. One of the nice things about putting in an offer on something you'd like to have but don't "need" or even really "lust" after. Sort of a take or leave it, no hard feelings sort of thing. If he accepts my price, will be a good deal. If not, then someone else will get a good gun at a reasonable price.

This reminds me of how I play poker the few times I've been to a casino ... play, but know when, why, and how to walk away.
