A few concerns with my Taurus 24/7.

Post by shortysboy09 »

I am having a couple of problems with my Taurus...

All these problem's have been observed with Remington FMJ 100 round value pack. ( What I was using for target shooting )

1. When I had shot the last round out of the magazine the slide on the gun will not lock back. It ejects the spent shell just fine, but does not lock the slide back.

2. Sometimes it will shoot, eject the spent shell, then the new shell jams halfway up the feed ramp or almost into the barrel.

Some observations I had was that after the first couple of clips the gun was already extremely dirty. ( Way worse then with Winchester FMJ rounds ) The gun was spotless when I got to the range. The feed ramp was gray as could be along with the side of the gun where the vent hole is just in front of the take-down pin. Also, the end of the barrel was solid black. Is this an ammo issue or is there something defective with the gun? I brought it home and cleaned the crap out of it and also lubed it to the best of my abilities. I haven't shot it since doing that.

Sounds like ammo to me. I know some brands are using dirtier powder than normal and sloppier work due to the ramping up of production. Clean it thoroughly, try a quality brand of ammo and see how that works for you. The only time I have ever had any issues with my 24/7's is when I allowed them to get dirty. Other than that, they seem to eat anything. I have noticed both WWW and Remington leaving them dirty though. I bought 2,000 count of S&B and shot 1,000 of them in one day without cleaning...and had neither misfires nor dirty-ness.

If it happens after you clean and change brands, try a different magazine (if you haven't already). I did have a bad mag once that gave similar issues, but would not cause the dirtyness.

Thank you for your response. I will try this stuff and report back. It was after it got dirty that it started to malfunction. I would say after the first 50 rounds though. Must be really dirty ammo. I have confidence the Winchesters will be cleaner.

I will also be taking my camera next time to take pictures if it malfunctions again.
