I always just call another dealer and ask if they could find it for me, and the price, etc. I usually have 7 dealers in the state looking for cars for me, and the lowest, wins. They can always ship the car up for free, and if they won't do it for free, find another dealer.

I have found cars.com useful.

Prices vary by region. You may not get the same price in Lubbock as in Los Angeles because of competitive factors.

I did something similar last time except I faxed a letter to every Mazda dealership within 100 miles with my requirements, requested their best price, and told them I would buy from the lowest bidder. I got a great deal but you could probably do even better now.

SmoothFox:

While I was window shopping on the Nissan website, I configured
a Frontier, then used their search function to try and find one that
matched.

I require a manual transmission and the search results were full of
slushboxes (automatics) that I had to plow through to find the sticks.
Their search results seemed to be just shotgunning a bunch of Frontiers
at me and hoping I'll take something. Not very targeted IMHO.

An email was sent by me to the Nissan folks : "Why are you giving me
automatics when my search criteria clearly is marked manual?"
They never replied.
