This is a sad situation. We have a "serial home invader" here in Midland. He has crashed four or five homes since Christmas in one neighborhood. Thank God no one has been hurt, but it is only a matter of time, if he is not caught. The PD has a composite sketch that has been on TV, so maybe someone will drop the coin on him.
This is the first time I have heard of this type of criminal, although I suppose in our case it may just be because he has been identified several times. Sooner or later he will crash the wrong door and things will get ugly. And by the way, this is happening in a neighborhood considered to be one of the "nicer" ones.
Another good reason to be armed 24/7 as no one is exempt.
Be safe.

Wow, That's pretty scary right there!
Are they saying he is armed when he enters?

Re: Waiting to Happen
When I was in high school, many moons ago, there was a group of teens who hit almost all the homes in our neighborhood over a several month period. We put all the pieces together when a neighbor saw a car parked in alley behind our house with a couple of guys pulling all lot of stuff from under a bush. We assume they kept it there until things cooled down and then tried to pawn or sell it. Police caught up with them that afternoon and no more robberies for quite a while! One of the few times I actually seen the bad guys get their due.

I don't think they know. He hasn't shot or stabbed anyone, but that doesn't mean he is not armed. From the description the guy is maybe mid twenties, so he isn't a kid.Are they saying he is armed when he enters?

That would make me pretty uneasy if I was in the vicinity of where he is. Just remain on high alert and I hope the authorities catch up with him before he hurts someone or someone hurts him.PeteCamp wrote:I don't think they know. Re: Waiting to Happen
It can happen anywhere--we have threads from time to time about home invasions happening in the middle of nowhere as well as in the big cities.
This is why I have an alarm on my door which is loud enough to wake the dead. If anyone were to kick in my door, it should give me time to be awake and armed before an intruder could make it to my bedroom (if the alarm didn't scare him off in the first place).
Another simple tip is to replace the screws in your door (hinges and deadbolt) with 3" long screws--the standard screws aren't long enough to reach the studs, but longer screws give an extra measure of safety against a quick kick.
