Living out of his car, a bus driver brought a rifle onto school property, but a jury ruled his right to a weapon for self defense in his home outweighed any prohibition of guns on school property. Never mind the part about offering to kill somebody's unwanted girlfriend...

Re: CO Man Beats Gun Free School Zone Law
I love some of the comments made by the prosecutor.
"Nedlin also argued that it's not plausible that an individual can carry a gun anywhere, anytime and any place under the guise of protection."
I guess he has never heard of CHL's or the 2A. Guess states issue CHL (CCW) so that people can go hunting or to the shooting range.
“It's not believable that he brought a gun to school grounds to protect himself and his property,” Nedlin told the jury. “There are no bears on the school grounds during the day.”
Maybe he was out of town when Columbine or Virginia Tech happened. Yes, there is no need to protect yourself on school grounds. After all they are GUN FREE ZONES.

"...Peltier had two cars and $7,000 in cash."
And no place to live?
Something doesn't add up about that defense.

It's Aspen. A one bedroom condo is probably $7,000 a month. I'd be living in my car, too, on school bus driver pay. Looks to me like this case beat MacDonald v Chicago to record on incorporation of the Second Amendment, Sonya Sotomayor be danged. And no place to live?
Re: CO Man Beats Gun Free School Zone Law
This trial took place in a state court, i.e. under state law. It was not THE federal "Gun Free School Zone" law (or GFSZA of 1996) we've discussed on other threads. Some? Many? states have a similar law, but the article does not lay out what the law actually allows or forbids.
