I dont understand why their arent more 9mm subcompacts

You see these tiny .380s with that wimpy little round but you cant find nearly as many 9mm that are the same size. Not to mention you cant find 380 anywhere! And 9mm is much cheaper and more plentiful.

Until higher capacity magazines were banned in '94, there was no demand for them. Those who could carry chose full size handguns.

A magazine capacity of ten made the full size models less desirable. This, coupled with the spread of newly legal concealed carry, was the incentive for development of compact handguns.

So, if you consider that the compacts have developed over less than 20 years, we actually have a good selection.

I have an EMP, it's a great gun, but I'd like one that is proportioned like the original 1911 5".
Perhaps a Sig P238 with a 1/2" long barrel and grip

You should check out the Rohrbach R9S. Simply the smallest and finest pocket none on the planet. Pricy, though.

Considering that the maximum overall cartridge length for the 9mm is around 1.169", a 1/2" barrel might not be enough to take advantage of what the 9mm has to offer.

.380 ACP pressure is 22,000 psi
9x19mm pressure is up to 34,000 psi

The STI Rogue might be just the ticket...it's an Officer's size 1911, (actually, the grip-frame is even a little shorter than the Colt New Agent size), 3" bull barrel, aluminum frame, steel where it should be. Not *quite* pocket gun, but easy to carry, lightweight, easy to conceal, and shoots like a dream.

Solid and reliable as a 1911 should be.

I carry a CZ 2075 RAMI in 9mm. It also comes in .40 S&W. The latter harder to find at the moment

While not cheap. I've never heard anyone paying the MSRP. I didn't.

Anyhow, I love it. Easy for me to conceal. I'm 6-2, 205. Carry IWB 4-5 oclock.

It's just harder to build a tiny 9mm than it is a .380. The only currently available easily pocketable 9mms are the Rorbaugh, Kahr PM9/MK9, and possibly the KT PF9. I have not personally tried to pocket the Keltec, but I assume it's about as pocketable as the Kahr. The Rorbaugh is the smallest and costs over a grand so I don't have one. I sold a Keltec P11 because I couldn't quite pocket carry it comfortably. I ended up with the PM9 and am very pleased with it. I considered the KT PF9, but it is not available with night sights.

I'm sure there will be more small 9mms available in the future, but for all the reasons the previous posters mentioned there aren't very many truly small ones right now.

Just a little more about the STI Rogue.

The STI Rogue is smaller than the EMP. It will easily fit any place a person would carry a snubby and it's very narrow. The barrel is fully supported. It's length is 6" and weighs 21 oz. Everything has been smoothed and rounded to allow pocket carry. Not a mouse but is it a bug.

Lets play nice now. We all know that with the current .380 shortage no one has 6 rounds to begin with.

We should also point out the Kahr minis and Walther PPS are pretty much the same size as a Bersa. I've not shot a Kahr, but I have shot a friend's Walther PPS and man it spoke to me. It was a natural "point and shoot" dead center accurate with no noticeable recoil and brilliant sights for someone with bad vision.
