Ouch! Ruger LCR in .357 Magnum?

Now, the question is: Which hurts worse, being shot with this gun, or shooting it?

Well, if a S&W Mod. 60 with full-bore self-defense .357's is any indication (given that it weighs about 2x what the LCR does) I'd say it's equal.

That said, I'd buy the .357 version, even if I were downloading to .38's, if they were close in price. I can't get past the hangup that everything else I have is .357, so I haven't bought any 38 specials...

Probably not any worse than a S&W Scandium J-Frame in .357 (I think the model # is 340). The polymer of the LCR may even absorb recoil better than metal.

Still, not very comfortable to shoot I imagine. It can be painful to shoot non-+P .38spl in a J-frame (I have a 642); I can't imagine how full-power .357 would feel.

Do yourself a favor and think Speer 135 grain Gold Dot 357 MAG +P @ 990 fps out of a 13 ounce LCR.

I fired 10 rounds of 158 grain .357 magnum in my friend's S&W 340 and that convinced me to stick to no more than +P .38 and my 642. By the time I got to round 7 I stopped aiming and just fired to get rid of the rest. Maybe you wouldn't think of the recoil in a life critical situation but you really can't practice much.

Yep, in 357, probably a pretty good ouchie. Methinks they would do better if in semi-new .327. Or better still, in 9mm! They used to make SP-101 in 9mm. I had a chance to buy one off a member years ago and did not :(

I almost bought a LCR in 38, having it in 357 will probably do it for me, gives me more options.

I got my wife a .38 LCR for Christmas, and we both like it very much. Besides the greatly amplified recoil, I would think that chambering it in .357 would compete too much against the Sp101. I know that the SP101 is a lot heavier as it's steel, but still. I agree with Greybeard, that the LCR in .327 would be very appealing. If they made a .327 LCR, 6 shot, 3-inch barrel, I would be very excited about that.

I spoke with one of Ruger's marketing guy's at the Shot Show and inquired about this, he denied the 357 in the LCR platform (it was not in their booth) and mentioned that they are working on something that could be released in the 3rd or 4th quarter. I made a suggestion to make it in 9mm and it would be a hit, he smiled when I mentioned that and said to watch for the announcement. Was not letting anything out but by the look on his face I felt the 9mm version could be a possibility. I own and carry a LCR and could not imagine a polymer frame handgun chambered in 357..... would be concerned that bruises would result from that kind of recoil with barely nothing to absorb it....
