Marksman Range Report 01/04/2010

Post by Kevinf2349 »

My daughter has got the shooting bug so before she heads off back 'over the pond' we went to Marksman again.

This time we took the shotgun, the Henry and a collection of handguns. We had 3 lanes and we bought extra targets and the whole session only cost $13 (minus ammo of course)

The range was pretty quiet and we got three lanes next to each other. My wife stuck with shooting the G19 and the XD9 but she wasn't happy with her shooting. I am not sure why she was hitting the target but she wasn't happy with the grouping. I think she wants to have a 'tweaking' lesson with a lady shooter so I may need to research that. I would hate for her to get to where she doesn't enjoy the sport.

My daugther shot one shell out of the shotgun and that was enough for her! "rlol" She went back to making holes in 'terrorists (and unfortunately a couple in the hostage!)

I had a further 'plink' with the Henry and I love that rifle! It is so quiet that even a BB gun seems to make more noise, and that gun is so accurate it is scary.

I shot a few rounds through the G30 and that still is a gun that I would trust my life to. The Bersa 380 Thunder CC is a different story. I loaded the factory mag with 7 x 94 Gr FMJ and I had 4 FTFs! After we left the range I turned the Bersa in at the Arms Room for sending back to the manufacturer's gunsmith. Hopefully this will fix the FTF issue once and for all. I hate having a gun that I can't trust enough to risk my family's life with.

The shotgun had a few more shells pumped through it and it is proving to extremely accurate and dependable. I would definately recommend it as a HD weapon.

The Glocks and Springfields ran great and straight. The LCP was left unshot and the Bersa is still proving problematic (but should be back from the shop soon)

All told it was an informative and fun trip to the range and hopefully it will result in a functioning Bersa as a result, if not, the Bersa is gone! :totap:
All in all it was a good and worthwhile range visit.

Have her get in touch with CompVest. I cannot begin to put into words how much my shooting improved once I started attending the Women's Program at PSC. No membership necessary to attend the class. Next time we get together is the first Saturday in February. I would love to meet her too.

Thank you TLynn!

Kevinf2349, our group would love to have your lady join us on any or all of the Pearland Shooting Club (PSC) Woman's Classes. We are out there the first Saturday of the month, 9 AM to noon. Members of PSC are $10 and non-members are $15.

Have her bring a holster for her gun if she has one and wear a sturdy belt.

This coming class Saturday, February 6th will have a fun shoot after our shooting drills. She will need about 200 rounds of ammo.

Marksman is a very decent indoor range. Ventilation isn't great, but better than most indoor facilities I've been to. I got a range card last time I went. It's $72 for 12 times regarding if you have a long gun or not. So if you brought in a long gun (shotgun, .22lr rifle) it still cost $6 which saved me $4 each time I go. For how frequent I hit up that place, it's totally worth it.

Follow-up:

The Bersa has been returned and has been 'fixed', but I am not sure what they did. I do know they didn't clean it! :totap:

I will be trying it again on the next range visit.

I also bought a Hogue grip for the wife's Elsie and put that on. She likes how that feels so she will try that on the next range visit too.

That's pretty fast turn around on the Bursa Kevin. I hope they fixed the problem. That's so frustrating when something like that happens to you.

:iagree:

Especially considering the weather too. It apparently went to Colorado for repair. I am impressed with the turnaround but I will be even more impressed if it shoots reliably now. :thumbs2:

Does it do that with all ammo? I have a Bersa 380 (not the CC), and I have had several FTFs and a couple FTEs with it with ball ammo (95gr Magtech and Prvi, specifically). Ironically, the first, second, third, and fourth FTFs were during my CHL qualification! That was interesting... The instructor had a field day with me calling my handgun crappy.

90gr JHP (Aguila) and 80gr HP (Corbon DPX) I have had zero failures with, and I've shot quite a bit of each.

I have an update!

My good lady and I took a trip to Marksman last night for the first time since getting the Bersa back from repair.

On further inspection it appears that they tightened the recoil spring and seemingly very little else, however, we still got 4 FTFs out of 45 shells. Still to high in my mind.

We shot WWB 95gr FMJ through it (or tried to anyway! "rlol" ). I am about to send the gun off for repair again!

The rest of the guns ran flawlessly. I put a Hogue grip on the LCP and that pleased the wife. It felt much more comfortable in her hand. (She still wants to get a lesson though so maybe PSC will get to see us soon)

The G30, G19 and XD9 are just beasts! They just run and run and they are very accurate. I put a 12" target at the very end of the range (15 yards) and shot the snot out of it with the G30. 0 misses, which pleased me immensely .... but then I am easily pleased. :smilelol5: :thumbs2:

The range itself was very busy but we only waited for about 5 minutes before 2 lanes opened up, and they were next to each other.

All told a pretty good night, but that darn Bersa is driving me crazy! It is accurate, just not reliable yet. :headscratch
