School Trip Question

Post by chuckybrown »

A class in our school is taking a school sponsored/paid for trip for a week on buses, staying at two campgrounds.

What is your opinion on the legality of carry here?

Thanks!

You answered your own question. See my highligted section above.

The answer is no if you are part of the group.

Keith, I figured as much....., I just hate the idea of extended travel to remote campgrounds unarmed.

I wouldn't go unless they gave me written permission to carry.

Don't do it without permission. What do you think are the odds of getting permission?

Uhh, don't forget that it's illegal to carry on the PREMISES of a school/event. Where PREMISES is defined as a building or part of a building. A bus/campground is not a building.

From PC 46.03
....or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution;...
So a school bus is included in the law.

Thank you for the correction. I guess you have to get written permission.

Guess I should read over the handbook again.

After many previous discusions here, the concensus seems to be that if you're in a museum or library and a school sponsored event enters, you are not in violation. Extending that, other CHLs at the campground would not be in violation. However, the bus is off limits and I think the campground would be also for you, if you are traveling with the group.
