bought a Sig P220 Compact
After having the P239 and carrying it in a Crossbreed IWB Supertuck for several weeks, I decided to take the plunge and buy a P220 Compact in 45 cal. I got it and ran to the range and all I can say is WOW! Soon as I got home I went online and ordered another Crossbreed holster. I started by carrying a Keltek P32 and just sort of worked my way up to the 45. Should it ever be needed, then I KNOW I have the tool. Like Clint says, "carrying concealed is not necessarily supposed to be comfortable, IT' SUPPOSED TO BE COMFORTING..." or something like that...

Nice! I didn't even know Sig made a P-220 compact...I always thought it was the P-245.

It comes in four versions: Blued with beavertail, stainless (two-tone) with beavertail, blued with rail (no beavertail) and stainless with rail (no beavertail). It features a shortened slide, and a compact frame and has a capacity of 6+1. It is possible to use the 8 round magazines of the P220 Carry which will give it an 8+1 capacity. Adapters are available to cover the portion of the magazine which protrudes from the bottom of the grip. [3] It is essentially a replacement for the discontinued P245, and is meant to address complaints about the P220 Carry's full-size frame in a concealed carry pistol.
From Michael Bane (Downrange.TV)...
I had high, high hopes for the P245...I wrote back in the early 1980s that Sigs were for me the most ergonomic of the semis. I will stand by that statement. I own and shoot Glocks and have occasionally carried a 19, but I think the nature of the grip angle mandates that you need to shoot them exclusively to be really good with them (and some of the top Glock instructors in the world say the same thing), and it's not a DA/SA gun. I find the H-K bore axis to cause the guns to be snappier in recoil for me that I think they should be. The S&W M&P is ergonomically excellent, but it's not a DA/SA gun. The CZ Rami 9mm is a neat gun (as well as designed by a good friend of mine; I shot the prototypes when I was at the factory in the Czech Republic), but there weren't enough advantages to outweigh the 225. I never warmed up to the little Kahrs, although I have friends who swear by them; I loved the way their .45s handled, but they were a handful to shoot. I have not shot their new Novak .45, but I will.
The 245 had, for me, two significant weaknesses — the frame "bit" me in the web of the hand, and I couldn't get a full 4-finger grip on the frame. That made it hard to deliver the follow-up shot. Back to the 225/226 platforms for me! Interestingly enough, I know a bunch of fairly high speed guys who were initially really hot on the 245, and none of them (that I know of) are using it today.
Which brings us — finally! — to the P220 Compact.
1) After 5 magazines through the gun, I ordered one on the spot.
2) The beavertail, which has been much-maligned on certain forums, did a super job of doing exactly what beavertails do, distribute recoil over a larger area of the web of the hand. Ergo, reduced "felt recoil;" faster follow-up shots. In an FBI cant holster, a beavertail is inconsequential...look at your 1911s, for heaven' sake...when was the last time you heard a 1911 maven railing against a beavertail because it compromised carry?
3) P220 Compact designers made a very small change in the magazine buttplate that resulted for me in a major change in the grip...a full four finger grip instead of 31/2 fingers. I laid the magazines next to each other and was surprised at how small the change was — that, kids, is the definition of "elegance" in product design.
BOTTOM LINE — a 225-sized gun in .45 ACP that I can run as fast as the 9mm...what's not to like? When I get mine, will I want to make some changes in it? You bet...I always do. Wayne Novak or Bill Laughridge...or the Sig Custom Shop...will accommodate me; they have my credit card number, after all.
I think the gun's a big hit. Your results may vary...

Great choice, enjoy.
