Fingerprints

Post by howdy »

Between April and June, all Substitute Teachers in Texas are being required to be fingerprinted. (Katy ISD has 8000, yes thousand, Substitutes) This is being done at the FAST (same as CHL) fingerprint service. I know that the Houston FAST offices get booked up now, so it might be a real zoo during those months. If you or a friend are thinking about getting your CHL or a renewal, you might get down there before April and get your prints done.

But .... Anyone doing so should find a way to get passport photos done first and get the fingerprinter to sign the back of both of 'em. Otherwise, it may be a royal pain later chasing that person down to do it.

It sounds like DPS is going to force the FAST method upon CHL folks one of these days. Just waiting to see what day that is gonna be when we will no longer be able to provide a true "one stop shop" with classes at the range.

Sounds like one hell of a mess to me.

I wanted to use FAST for my CHL prints last May. I had three 'reasonable' options as I live just North of Corpus Christi. I could make an appointment in San Antonio (six hours round trip), to the same in Brownsville (just under six hours round trip) or Houston, probably seven hours round trip. This does not take into account any waiting time or any other delays due to the process.

I chose none of the above. I got my local LEO's to use the 'ink' system on the cards provided in my DPS packet. They did a very good job (no rejections) in about 20 minutes, at NO CHARGE.

FAST had better grow real fast, or make other arrangements. This is going to cause a backlog all over the state that will make our 90 day 'waits' for CHL look like a day in the park. DPS worked hard to reduce the CHL waiting period, but I don't see all the school districts around the state doing the same. Sounds like a very large shortage of teachers is in our future.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.
