Stolen valor in Houston: man arrested

A 20-something with hipster facial hair showed up to the mayor's inaugural party in Blue Mess uniform with a huge array of awards, badges, and decorations.

He has been tentatively identified and arrested, and will face a federal magistrate for arraignment tomorrow morning. There goes his Super Bowl party plans!

What a pathetic human being. It's a shame when convicted that he will only spend 1 year in federal prison. to dishonor those that legitimately earned the right to wear medals sickens me to no end.

Yes I saw that. And I thought I saw him wearing the Bronze Star on that uniform. A true "kook" of monumental proportions.

I wasn't aware of the stolen valor act but OTOH, I still thought it was illegal to wear the American Flag or a replica thereof.

When I was a "yout" this was not an uncommon practice. In fact, a guy a couple of years older than me broke into our hang out drugstore (Parker's Midway) in Harrisburg, IL. Sam Parker was a WW II marine veteran of the PTO. He gave the guy a choice of the marines or jail.

A lot has changed in the past half century and not all of it is for the better.

However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

I agree. When we were kids we ran around wearing military patches and medals. Nobody thought anything was wrong. It sounds like today kids could be arrested for it.

The differecnce is you weren't trying to pass yourself off as a real soldier in a manner to defraud. This guy was.

This idiot has been buring up the milblogs since appearing at the Mayor's party. He enjoyed showing in various uniforms to get attention.

The guy in the video could have been him. The CIA patch on his hat is just like the CIA badge on the uniform. His last outing was as a Brigadier General and there is a BG star above the hat patch.

If I was his Lawyer I would just say it falls under the 1st and it was a Political Statement, and/or Freedom of Expression.
