Gun ban due to snow??

Re: Gun ban due to snow??
Keep in mind the article about NC said not only could not SELL guns due to the emergency, but could not even carry such off your property due to such. If there were an emergency, I certainly would want to be carrying in a time like that.

(c) The peace officer shall return a firearm and any ammunition to an individual disarmed under Subsection (b) before ceasing to detain the individual unless the officer:seamusTX wrote:Just FYI, Texas law has similar provisions: Government Code Chapter 433, State of Emergency:You can find the law here: http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Sec. 433.002. ISSUANCE OF DIRECTIVES. (a) After a state of emergency is proclaimed, the governor may issue reasonable directives calculated to control effectively and terminate the emergency and protect life and property....
(b) The directive may provide for:
(1) control of public and private transportation in the affected area;
(2) designation of specific zones in the affected area in which, if necessary, the use and occupancy of buildings and vehicles may be controlled;

(4) control of places of amusement or assembly;
(5) establishment of curfews;
(6) control of the sale, transportation, and use of alcoholic beverages, weapons, and ammunition, except as provided by Section 433.0045; and
(7) control of the storage, use, and transportation of explosives or flammable materials considered dangerous to public safety.
GC 433.045 states thatTo the best of my knowledge, these provisions have never been put into effect in Texas. In that case, the obvious contradictions have not been tested in court.A directive issued under this chapter may not authorize the seizure or confiscation of any firearm or ammunition from an individual who is lawfully carrying or possessing the firearm or ammunition.
(b) A peace officer who is acting in the lawful execution of the officer's official duties during a state of emergency may disarm an individual if the officer reasonably believes it is immediately necessary for the protection of the officer or another individual.

(1) arrests the individual for engaging in criminal activity; or
(2) seizes the firearm as evidence in a criminal investigation.
Isn't that the way it is without a state of emergency?

That law was passed in 2007, in the first legislative session after Hurricane Katrina. I think the legislature was trying to make it absolutely clear that the police could not disarm people at whim.
Of course, they can do it anyway. All you can do is sue them later.

I have this model, which works very well (although I was one of the lucky few who never lost power during Ike).seamusTX wrote:They also make manual crank radios. I keep meaning to get one, but I'm lazy.frazzled wrote:Of course batteries don't last for weeks...

I reported the Baytown ban here:
http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=18806" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But it did NOT end on September 15th. As referenced by the previously linked minutes, the ban was not lifted until October 3rd.
Of course, such a local ban was preposterous. All one had to do was buy outside the city limits.

As we loose power up here about 6 times a year, my wife bought me one very similar to this one for Christmas 2 years ago:seamusTX wrote:Car batteries do, if they are in a car that runs. :^)frazzled wrote:Of course batteries don't last for weeks...

But mine has shortwave bands and am/fm instead of TV + weather band. I'm glad I have this one, as the TV bands have gone away since HD channels came into being last year.
The hand crank is great! 5 minutes of cranking gets you 30 minutes of radio. I've used it a LOT since I've had it.

According to some guests on "Gun Talk" this may bar the town from receiving any federal funding because of a recently passed federal law. They suggested people contact their leadership in the town and inform them of this.
Thanks Jim, you are exactly right about being able to do nothing about a confiscation until later.

I would have likede to have had one that had a USB, and a cell phone charger plug on it to take care of a few things...But in the end we managed ok...
Jim, we got a few months before the stormin' season begins...Gimme a holler, and we'll go foraging for some stuff for your preparations...

As I am begining to phase in some redundancy to our "table of contents" at Casa Steve's, We can help each other out...No problemo...

Well, you could get a jumper pack and use it to power stuff like this:stevie_d_64 wrote:I would have likede to have had one that had a USB, and a cell phone charger plug on it

Here's a AA powered USB charger with some cell phone plugs under $6:

USB charger, solar panel to recharge the internal battery (1800mAh, not the 18000 in the title) under $20:

I haven't used any of those, so just going by the descriptions. Order now if you want them this month, though; the free shipping can take three weeks or more.

That solar cell phone charger looks good. After Ike in Galveston, cell phones were the first form of communication to come back online, before the electricity.
