Sellier and Bellot Ammo

Post by Tregs »

While looking for a good deal on some 115gr JHP 9mm, I found some Sellier and Bellot ammo last night online at "Ammo To Go" for $18.95 for 50 rounds. Does anyone use this ammo? Good? bad?

It is EXCELLENT ammo. I bought 1,500 rounds of the S&B from Ammo to Go and used it in an urban combat training class, shooting 1,000 rounds in one day. Never a hiccup. It's not the cheapest ammo (I just bought 50 9mm Remington at Wallmart for $14.95) but the quality is good for the price.

I've shot random boxes of S&B in different calibers that I picked up during the ammo shortage. It shoots fine, though I've only shot their FMJ offerings. I'd definitely rank it above Monarch, Priz Partisan (which actually makes Monarch for Academy) which really dirty up my guns, and well above any of the European steel cased junk.

S&B is probably on par with what I've shot from Fiocchi. Both are probably as good as any of the American name brands, I just can't bring myself to admit that :patriot:

In a rare moment of foresight, I bought 20 cases (20K rounds) of 9mm and .45 back when it was 1/3rd its current price. Not one bad round in the lot.

I do prefer the brass vs the steel/brass washed however.

We have run the 115 gr FMJ and not had any problems with it. I put it above Monarch and WWB. But at $18.95/50 rounds seems a bit pricey to me. We only paid $12 or $13 for 50 rounds.

Never had a chance to use it, but it sure gets good ratings on Cabela's website. And the price on "ammo to go" seems awfully pricey. Cabela's offers the 115 gr, and the 124 gr FMJ for $13.99

What's wrong with WWB? I mean, as basic practice ammo of course. I'd put WWB miles ahead of Monarch.

WWB is horrible, esp of late. People are reporting up to 50% "duds" as ammo companies have ramped up production and getting careless. It is very dirty powder, and many guns will not reliably shoot WWB but will shoot anything else. Check the Taurus forum and you will see that it will not work dependably in the Taurus 709, although the 709 will shoot anything else. Also, one of the forum members used a micrometer to measure various ammo before and after shooting, and found the WWB casing would swell larger than other brands, producing problems of getting stuck in the barrel and other FTE's. Another forum member related that the dealer told him WWB is made for Winchester by the lowest bidder, thus inconsistent quality. While this is all second hand, my experience with WWB would make me tend to believe such. Funny thing is, I have NEVER had these issues with Monarch which many regard as inferior.

What he said +1. we haven't had too many "duds" but a few. We have a 709 also and we FTE using WWB due to the reason stated above. Gun runs other ammo fine even Monarch. WWB runs OK in my wife's Kahr P9 and my S&W 908.

I've never had a single problem with a single round of WWB. That said, I've never had a problem with Monarch either, other than it being nasty dirty AND I think many of their rounds are under-loaded. Monarch was all I shot (because it was all I could find) in my Ruger LCP the first few months I had it. I never understood people who said the LCP had a lot of recoil or bite. When I started firing other brands, I noticed more bite on the web of my hand. Still not bad, but I think I know what folks are complaining about now.

Also no other brand dirties my guns more than Monarch. I won't fire it in my AR-15 anymore after having to take a Dremel to the front of the bolt assembly to remove the baked on crud.

That said, the last box of WWB I put through my LCP was dirtier than usual. So I can see the inconsistency part of the argument (probably a lot of that going around with a lot of ammo manufacturers nowadays).

How dirty/clean a brand of ammunition leaves my guns is not a serious consideration because I clean after each and every range session. Reliability is my main concern and of late WWB lacks in that department. Several police agencies that I know of have stopped using WWB as training ammo for that very reason. Well, if you want to do malfunction drills you may want to use it. "rlol" :smilelol5:

If you have had good luck with WWB carry on, I don't use it any longer. Monarch/Privi Partizan in the brass cases is loaded to NATO specs they are a big supplier of ammo to NATO I've shot a lot of it and like it the brass is great for reloading.

Here's some for $12.95/50 Dynamit Nobel

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... groupid=46" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you also shoot .32 ACP, they have S&B for $5.50 per box of 25

But i see you are local to DFW. I see 9mm ammo advertised locally for under $10/box of 50.
I think most recent was Academy, but I don't recall the brand.
