AD at Busy Restaurant in OH

I just saw this story posted this morning. A CHL licensed man put on his jacket prior to leaving a restaurant, after drinking , and had an AD that struck his girlfriend's Blackberry. The phone stopped the bullet! Must have been a .380? Here is a link.

This guy made a poor choice of weapon on 2 counts:

1. A slide that somehow is pulled back while putting on
his jacket? Probably due to human factors, though.

2. He conceivably carried this gun for protection. But a
friend showed me his Crackberry. It's a rather thin thing,
but that .32 bullet didn't even have enough power to go
all the way through it? Really?

If his mouse gun couldn't penetrate a Blackberry, what
do you think the disabling penetration prospects would
be if he were attacked by someone with a heavy winter
coat on? This happened in Ohio.

It is important to note that the gun actually did fire. I've only seen Brycos that won't.

Was that restaurant a 51%? Does Ohio CC laws prohibit carry anywhere alcohol is sold? Me wanna' know. I can't imagine a snag of the coat pulling the slide back. My guess is that the slide was somehow back when he put it in his pocket, possibly with a slide lock, and the tug of the shirt popped it in place and pulled the trigger.

Seems to me licensed carry is prohibited at any establishment that has a license to consume liquor on premises, except a D-6 or D-8 license (whatever those are, I'll assume they're restaurant type establishments) as long as the license holder isn't drinking. The article stated this person had been drinking. This being the case, he shouldn't have been carrying.

Haven't seen the Blackberry's guts, but it's been popular for a while now to make the cases and/or liners of personal electronics out of some pretty tough stuff. Titanium, high-strength aluminum alloys and Kevlar have all been used in various attempts to make PDAs and phones survive being dropped, crushed, etc.

Frankly, I'm impressed that the impact bruised her after being spread over a relatively large area by an object several times the bullet's weight. That takes more energy than most people give the .32ACP credit for. Must be why it was the round of choice for sending incompetent assassins after archdukes.

Interesting...wonder where I have heard that before. Yes, I realize the same thing COULD have happened without the drinking... BUT IT DIDN'T. IT HAPPENED AFTER DRINKING.

I don't agree with blaming the gun. Blaming the gun would be playing into the Brady Bunch ideology? I blame the person...and the fact that he made the decision to drink while handling firearms. No way that gun just went off on it's own. That dip stick was intoxicated and inadvertently pulled the bang switch. He then did the same thing all morons do when they get an AD. They claim it just went off.
