It doesn't matter what State you came from. From New York to California. Or Washingon to Florida, and all states in between. The fact is that you DID come to Texas. For what ever the reason...a better job; more opportunities; to escape oppressive winters' cold; to get to a better economical climate with no state income tax; to escape oppressive laws/culture/taxes. For what ever the reason.

All of you who weren't born here have one thing in common. You show the same pioneer spirit that helped build this great State to what it is today. I see you as no different than Stephen F. Austin's "Old 300". The first 300 families that Austin helped immigrate to Texas in 1821. You had the courage to uproot your family and move here for a better life for yourselves and your children.

Make no mistake about it. You ARE a Texan. Let no one tell you different! The disparaging remarks made that you used to live in one state or another, sickens me. You are here now...and claim Texas citizenship. That's all that matters.

I salute each and every one of you for living here. Thank you and God Bless Texas! :txflag:

I am originally from Kentucky. We moved to Pasadena Texas in 1971. I was 10 years old and have never looked back. I would like to remind you native Texans that if it weren't for a group of fellers from my part of the country you would be speaking Spanish and making tortillas right now. No need to thank me at this point. Graciously allowing me to live in this great state is thanks enough.

I can imagine the flaming I'd get if I had written that, even though I'd be proud to.
I'm not from Texas, wasn't in a hurry to get here, but back in the 80's, Texas sure was anxious to get my wife down here. I live here now, making an OK living, and may or may not leave after my kids grow up. What this, and where anyone comes from, has to do with gun control, gun freedoms and Bill O'Reilly, I have yet to figure out!

Reading other comments from other articles and blogs, Bill O'Reilly probably isn't in ratings trouble over this, but it sure has been noticed. I wonder if anything will come up on his TV show regarding it, maybe in his talking points...? I hope someone who watches him regularly will post when and if it does.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

I am originally from TN.... once a repairman said something about me "not being a true Texan" and I replied similar as you. I said "If it weren't for us Tennesseans you would all be habla-ing the espanol right now. Without missing a beat, he said "Well you did and we still are!" Guess he was right! Besides, all the great Texans were from Tenn! Crockett, Houston, etc

I'm a fifth-generation Texan, and my son was born in Kansas. We moved back to Texas two months after he was born, and he's being raised in Texas, but it bugs me that his birth certificate is from a different state.

That being said, I think it's all about attitude...and I plan to raise my son to think of himself as a Texan, regardless of where he happened to be born. :-)

wgoforth wrote:This was discussed on Tom Greshem's GunTalk yesterday. I had forgotten (if I even knew it) that after Katrina, a federal law was passed against future gun confiscations due to weather. He said the bill was introduced by Bobby Jindol when he was a representative. Anyone know the specifics?
That's a good question. Reckon we'll get an answer?

Bill O'Reilly is basically just going to say whatever he can to get ratings. He is like Ann Coulter he just spouts stuff off to get people riled up, god help us if they believe the stuff they spew.

Nor...would we have the "Little Old Lady"....

Its the little old lady from Pasadena
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
Got a pretty little flower bed of white gardenias
Go granny, go granny, go granny go
But parked in her rickety old garage
Is a brand new shiny red super-stock dodge

And everybody's saying theres nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
Shes a terror out on Colorado boulevard...........

Of course, the young folks here won't know what I am talking about since the Beach Boys and Jan Dean have long since been out of vogue.

Dang....I'm old. ;-)

O'Reilly's point seems to be that the looters were armed. I believe that the activity of looting is illegal. Disarming law abiding citizens because of another person's illegal behavior just lacks common sense. Punish those committing the illegal activity and be done with it. Does O'Reilly really believe that the answer it to throw little old ladies on the ground? I don't understand this logic. I would imagine that some of the looters also drove cars. Would it make sense to take away law abiding citizen's drivers license because the looters drove cars? O'Reilly appears the idiot here.
