How long do you think it took to shoot 51 Buffalo? You think around 25 he would have stopped and thought about it.

I just have to say it again. I can't believe what a total jerk (I want to use other words) this guy is. By the way aren't buffalo natural to Texas? I mean sure people have to re-introduce them but at one time they were just as natural as white tail deer right?
I really hop this guy goes to jail.

I dont think he HAS TO according to Texas Law. As far as I know Texas is a Fence Out state, basically you dont want Cows on your Land, Put a Fence up to keep them out.Trinitite wrote:Or the guy who was concerned about his buffalo would have noticed by then and done something about the fence.marksiwel wrote:How long do you think it took to shoot 51 Buffalo? Also If I Park in front of your house are you going to set my car on fire? Or my dog gets loose and poops on your yard are you gonna shoot him?
Isnt this what "Range Wars" are about if I remember my Westerns correctly.

(in the article it notes Henrietta & Clay County. I grew up on a place 5 mi. east of Henrietta.)

Texas Ag code § 143.028. FENCES. (a) A person is not required to fence against animals that are not permitted to run at large.marksiwel wrote:I dont think he HAS TO according to Texas Law. § 143.034. PENALTY. (a) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly:
(3) allows an animal to trespass on the land of another in an area or county in which the animal is prohibited from running at large under this subchapter; or
(4) as owner, agent, or person in control of the animal, permits an animal to run at large in an area or county in which the animal is prohibited from running at large under this subchapter.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.
Note: if livestock is allowed to run at large in that county, then it means they can wander freely down the street, graze in the town square, etc. I have no idea if that's true where this happened, but that's what it means if animals are permitted to run at large.

Re: Oh Give Me a Home ...
I was driving down 1431 the other day (last year) going to Eagle peak, I passed a Cow, just standing there.
To understand how scary this is
Hill Country Roads are 70 MPH with 80 Degree Hills zig zagging all over the place.

Not uncommon to see stuff like this (A Real picture from 1431 btw via the Fire Department)
Anyway I'm going 80+ around a corner come within Feet of a 2 ton Cow!
Scared the Fun right out of me.

Re: Oh Give Me a Home ...
I had the same thing happen with a goat once. The Billy got out one afternoon while we were away at church. When we returned home he was laying just inside the gate and his rear end had been peppered with shot from a shotgun. Our neighbor said he was aiming behind him and just trying to scare him away from his trees and bushes. I counted maybe 5 holes no profuse bleeding but he died anyway. My wife wasn't very happy to say the least. I could only imagine what it would be like to lose 50 head of buffalo..

Re: Oh Give Me a Home ...
A buddy of mine knows the owner of the ranch where the Buffalo were killed. He told my buddy as soon as he found out what happened he fired the ranch manager and his assistant. I'm not sure if both were involved or what. So apparently this wasn't the land owner but rather the ranch manager acting on his own accord.

Seriously, I am glad the guys are getting prosecuted. I can understand an animal doing damage, but you need to go get legal restitution vs. taking the law into your own hands.
