I'm new around here...My CHL experience

I fully agree. I hope to something like this in the 2007 Legislative Session.
There's no reason why we can't get the training and go to a DPS licensing office to turn it in, get photos, fingerprints, etc.

Honestly, where is the instruction for signing the back of the paperclipped photo? It is definately NOT on the photo card. I'll scan it in when I get home for proof.

You're right. Maybe the state is trying to teach us a lesson about patience?! LOL

I'm really not freaking out about it. I think that it takes too long, but I knew the length of time going into the process. No big deal, in the meanwhile I'll just keep practicing my shooting!

IIRC, it's in a paragraph about halfway down on a green sheet of instructions that is included for both the applicant and fingerprinter.

Don't feel lonesome in the grief dealing with the burro-acracy. I just got my renewal packet for instructor renewal skul. On the pre-printed blue application form, at the bottom, there was a check list of items to include when returned. There was nothing whatsoever on it or anwhere else mentioning fingerprints. But, there was the blue-bordered fingerprint card in the envelope. So ... I called 'em, and yep, ' had to get fingerprinted again - although I did it just last November with CHL renewal ...

I noticed that too. I am going with several other instructors. Have you made your selection for dates yet?

I think it's time we do something to help CHL instructors on this issue. It's silly for you to have to go through this stuff twice. The statute needs to be changed such that your Instructor's Certificate tracks your CHL as to duration and expiration. Then, you would simply have to go for an update on the law every ___ years.

If you get your instructor certification after you already have your CHL, then it could expire on the expiration of your CHL, or your CHL could be renewed for another 5 years when you receive your instructor certification. I prefer the latter.

I also think getting the CHL should be automatic when you become an instructor.

I agree Charles, in the begining it only took about 30 day's for them to clear me for the instructor certifiation ( this was prior to them issuing the carry license ) then when they started issueing and I requested my license they did the same background check over again and I got my license about six months later. You Folks who think 60 days is a long wait try 6 months and you are certifying others the whole time.
Thank God we have it and our laws just keep getting better for the Good Guys.

Yep Chas, some of us could probably give ya more than an earfull on "need to do" topics - although much HAS been accomplished in the past ten years.

TXI - August and early September was already booked either here or there, so a buddy in Gun Barrel City and I asked for one of the last 3 dates in September. With all of the probable changes as a result of this recent legislative session, I don't want to be one of the instructors where it appears, may still need to be doing classes, but won't be able to get in for an "update" until as late as October, November or December ...

It would be nice to think (Ya listening, Chas?

) they would hit all instructors with a newsletter recapping the changes before Sept. 1.
