Shorts are much more readily available than longs. CCI is one of the few that I know of still making both. Packaging is similar and, concidently, the last time I researched it (about 5 years ago), the published velocity on both was around 720 fps.

Looked at the Barrel as suggested, it's stamped 22 LR so I'm not sure. I'll have to try cleaning it (I didn't the first time, I'm usually bad about not cleaning a gun before the first shoot) and see if it helps.

Update: I cleaned the gun like everyone suggested and while it chambers the LRs easier than before it still refuses to eject them (but shorts still work) so I'm off to contact the manufacturer (I would go gunsmith route but I'm unemployed and living off TWC right now)

Be prepared for them to tell you to try various brands of ammo until you find one that finiky Cricket likes to eat and spit out properly at both ends.
