There was a loose balloon up by the ceiling in the foyer, and the ceiling is pretty high up there. It's a converted commercial space, so I'm going to guess the height at 15 to 20 ft up. I jokingly told him, "Hey Corey, can you shinny up there on a ladder and knock that balloon down for me?" And he leaned in real close and said, under his breath, "You've got a gun on you, right? Why don't you just shoot it down?" Then he smiled and walked off.

Re: funny gun conversations
A small number of the pastoral staff at my church know I have a CHL, but evidently, one of them mentioned it to another staff member that I never told, because yesterday at church, that guy brought it up to me.

Re: funny gun conversations
A friend of mine at work have had many conversations about guns, gun laws, chl, etc. Needless to say she is very Anti as is her Husband.
But today we are sitting there taking a break and she looks at me and says that her and her husband have been watching lots of ZOMBIE movies lately and that when they come she is coming to my house, even though she does not see a need for guns in our normal lives, then asks me if I stock pile ammo....

I walked into a conversation not long ago about guns. Was funny. Apparently people in Texas don't deer hunt, duck hunt, all those things that are blatantly obvious to the rest of us.
Then they were like, "You have a gun???"
I just laughed, and said, "No, I don't have a gun..." and let it go at that
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Re: funny gun conversations
It has got to have it's roots in some Brady/VPC thing. That's the usual context where I seem to remember hearing it. Because, obviously, those wizards of smart know people shouldn't have guns, unless they're trained like policemen are. And since the yokels who usually buy guns (mostly in quantity and illegally at gun shows) are just a bunch of inbred, redneck, "Walker, Texas Ranger" wannabes, they don't know the first thing about the seriousness of handling a dangerous firearm. If they did go to all that trouble, they might as well just become a policeman - or join the Army (which is also full of nitwits and losers who couldn't get a scholarship or a real job).marksiwel wrote:where do people hear this crazy "They Bad Guy will shoot you with your own gun" bull?
So, the first thing that happens when Mr. Bad Guy causes trouble and Mr. Dumb Hick pulls his gun (that he's probably holding upside down and backwards), is that the clever and ruthless Mr. Bad Guy takes it away and uses it on the clueless Mr. Dumb Hick, who wouldn't be able to shoot himself out of a wet paper bag if it had a rip in it.
At least, that's what I think they think about us.
N.B.: If the above characterizations resemble anyone you know, please do not take it personally - this is a work of fiction, and any likeness to persons - living or dead - is entirely coincidental.

But for the benefit of our friend who asked an honest question, "Molon Labe" is a Greek phrase that means "Come and take them!" It was reportedly by the Greeks at Thermopylae, in response to the Persian demand that the Spartans lay down their weapons and surrender.
It's been a recurring theme throughout history, including the Battle of Gonzales during the Texas Revolution, when the Texians flew this flag:

An expert martial artist knows techniques for taking a handgun away from a perpetrator. I'm not an expert, but in the past I've dabbled in some American Kenpo karate as well as some ju-jitsu, and I have a good friend who teaches Aikido and Judo in Oklahoma City. I've seen the techniques demonstrated, and they work if they can get close enough to you to grab the gun, and if you're too slow or hesitant pulling the trigger. Basically it involves grabbing the handgun and pushing it back and sideways forcing the handgrip past your thumb, and typically breaking the trigger finger in the process. It's nasty.davidtx wrote:I'm not sure, but its sure popular. It makes me want to get one of those plastic training guns and have a little training session with the next person that tells me that. However, most thugs on the street aren't trained in martial arts, and if you're wise you try to avoid letting an attacker get within arm's reach of you before pulling the trigger.

I will learn some of those techniques as I get into more advanced Krav Maga. I've watched a video of it - in addition to grabbing the handgun, you also pivot your body, moving it out of the way of where the gun is pointed. I really wish I could have watched a recent training session that the instructors had - one of them brought in a bunch of his guns, unloaded them and they practiced.MojoTexas wrote:An expert martial artist knows techniques for taking a handgun away from a perpetrator. Yes, but the best one involves picking it up off the ground after you've been incapacitated. Guns aren't particularly good hand-to-hand weapons once you get past the element of surprise.MojoTexas wrote:An expert martial artist knows techniques for taking a handgun away from a perpetrator.
