It's a class that shows you how to properly use a gun. It may take weeks to get in but it's all for free.

The Basic Firearms and Safety/Proficiency Course is offered by El Paso Community College on the first Saturday of every month. The class is free and they even provide the guns and the ammunition. The course goes step by step teaching students about gun safety and the mechanics of firing and maintaining a gun.

If you're interested in taking the class you can reach the Law Enforcement Training Academy at (915) 831-7118.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Now THAT is how it's supposed to be. Plus, with Juarez and all its challenges right across the border, El Paso is a very good location for having as many law abiding people as possible be armed.

The indoor range is open after hours to LEO (local, state and federal) and CHL holders. IIRC, if you have the certificate showing you passed the EPCC safety class, you're also allowed range time there. It's not open to the general public.

Range fees are very reasonable, and they provide hearing and eye protection as well as a decent selection of targets, as part of the fee.

And it's on my way home from work. :thumbs2:

ABSOLUTELY!! Totally agree TDD!

I hope EPCC is the vanguard for colleges in Texas and that other Texas schools sit up and pay attention what they benefits they are offering the citizens of El Paso County! :txflag:

Thanks for sharing quidni. :tiphat:
