Back Up Gun Opinions

Post by gwashorn »

OK, I carry an XD9SC and love it. We have serveral others here as well and wife has a S&W3913 but starting to carry for ease of size a S&W642. I have a Beretta Tomcat 3032 for pocket carry and really do not carry it. So looking to sell the Tomcat and help finance getting my goal of a new 45acp. I am considering a larger caliber for my BUG but not sure what yet, that will come later. So question is getting rid of something I never carry OK? I hate selling guns. I did it before from years ago and today I KICK myself. But this one is just sitting here and really I don't use it. So before I post it up for sale here, if you really don't use or want to shoot it, is it OK to sell a gun? Feeling guilty.... GRIN.

I regretted selling my G27 right up to the point when I holstered my (just got it yesterday) brand new Glock 30 (compact .45).
I feel lots better now! :thewave
This is my Glock. There are many like it, but this baby's mine!
(and like many here, my B.U.G. is a LCP)

I would not shed a single tear for selling a mousegun, unless it was an heirloom or something you wanted to keep for teaching youngsters to shoot under supervised conditions.

Looking at matters purely pragmatically, I am sure that whatever cash you could obtain for the gun would be more useful to you than having the gun simply occupying space in your safe or gun room. But there is the issue of maximizing whatever you can get for the gun, especially now in the Great Recession.

On the other hand, if it ever gets to the point of making Mr & Mrs Taxpayer give up their guns in "turn them all in" door-to-door searches like Senators Fine-swine and Up-chuck really wanted to do across the nation in the mid-90's---or what really happened in New Orleans just a few years ago---then having a few seldom-used, throw-away firearms on hand to meekly surrender to the police might help everyone get through the matter with a minimum of fuss.

Wow, this thread got derailed quickly.....

If you are not using it and it is just taking up space in a safe, look at it this way, you are making room for future purchases!

That is a personal question only you can answer ultimately. I don't think any of us who not only own but enjoy our firearms have a hard time letting one go unless it is a constant problem child. Me personally, I had this same quandary a few years ago and came to the conclusion that I don't like having a gun I can't/don't shoot (sentimental value not pending). Plus, if selling your Tomcat and upgrading to a piece that you will shoot and carry then that's a win/win.

If you want some personal reassurance, I recently had a different but similar delima. I had an LCP that was reliable but didnt get shot (plus I was terrible with it!), a Taurus Slim I lost faith in for CC, and an SKS that I didn't shoot. So, I took the plunge and sold them all and got my tricked out Kahr PM9. It shoots great, conceals fantastic no matter the carry method, and I very happy with it for the fact that I got exactly what I wanted and skimped on nothing for once on a firearms purchase. So FWIW I say you should go for it and get something you will like better, and also something you will practice with because we should all practice as much as possible with what we choose to carry everyday. Hope that helps and good luck.

Ah, I figured I would get most the replies going this way. Just wanted a push as I knew the answer but was not happy with it. Will make up the post this weekend, well actually it is done and now have to add the pics. It WILL be replaced. Thinking a SA Micro Compact for my BUG. Thanks everyone.
