Spare magazines

Post by barres »

A couple of months ago, I went to see an Astros game at Minutemaid park. Because it was a professional sporting event, I left my pistol locked in the car. I did not, however leave my spare magazine behind (long story). Was I in violation of the law for carrying a fully loaded spare magazine, even though I had no firearm with me to fire that ammunition?

The only restriction that I know of about amunition on ones person is into the secure areas of an Airport and onto the craft itself.
Don't take any cartridges into Mexico, not a single one.

+1. No CHL violation to have ammo.

Thank you. That was the logical answer I had, but I know that logic and government regulations are not always the same.

I forget sometimes too...Like the others said, not to worry...

Then I hit myself (metally) because the lump in my back left pocket always starts to get uncomfortable for some reason!

Yeah, I've heard "stories" of one little .22 being enough to send one to Mexacalli Fedaralli (sp) prison for a period.

Is this really true?

YES! I had two preacher friends that were in South Texas Hog Hunting. They forgot about the ammo in the truck from hunting the day before and crossed over into Mexico. They both received 10 years sentences for the same half box of .44 mag ammo. No gun, just ammo.

A man here in Vidor was caught in Mexico some years ago with some ammo in his truck, he got 10 years. It literally took an act of Congress to get him out of the Mexican prison and into a Federal Prison here in the US. It also took a Presidential pardon to get his firearms rights restored. A felony in any country is looked at by ATF as a felony here in respect to firearms rights. At least that is what the news story said.

As was posted on a thread here on this board, you can wear your reloads (speedloader in that case) as earrings here in Tejas.
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
