Drift punch marks??!!!
Professionals (and even nonprofessional serious users) use sight pusher tools to prevent this very issue. Use of a drift punch on a tritium sight can easily crack or break the vials and allow the tritium to leak out - a very bad thing.
It will also invalidate the warranty. How would the manufacturer know? By the drift punch marks on the sight itself.
This was far from professional. The reason I took it to a "gunsmith" is because I wanted to avoid ME accidentally marring the slide by doing it myself. Instead , I paid $25 for someone else to damage it way more than I felt I could have. My immediate worry when I saw these markings was that he had cracked a vial on one of them. 4 days later and they seem to be holding with no visible fading. Dietz is not the fanciest place range/gun shop wise, but I expected a lot more care than this when dealing with customers firearms.
These photos dont do the marks justice. The stainless underneath the DLC is now bright and shiny due to the marring of the finish and I have no Idea what all that brown residue is on the front sight but they were also new sights. I dont think I can do much now that the damage is done. Maybe one day when I have a decent paying job I can just get a new slide with night sights already on it from Kahr and keep this as a spare. Get just what I want in a pistol, only to have a gunsmith mess it up....

After thinking about your situation: If it were me, someone would be buying me a new gun with the sites attached properly. That picture makes me want to cry. I just can't believe they actually gave it back to you in that condition. They would be getting a real ration of it from me. Did you inspect it before paying and taking it home? Or did they have it wrapped up so you couldn't see and you didn't get a good look until you got home. If they don't make it right, turn them into the BBB. Shoddy workmanship to say the least.

I can say for fact that the PM40 is much more jumpy/snappy than either the PM9 or the PM45. I have the PM45 and have put plenty of rounds through the PM9 and PM40 as well. The PM40 is uncomfortable to me by a much larger margin. The PM45 is actually quite easy to shoot.

HOLY COW!!!! I have to agree! I think my 10 year old son could have done a better job than that! That's not a cheap gun and that is just plain unacceptable workmanship IMO. I would be having them get me a replacement slide AND sights, installed properly. That's just plain unacceptable.

I plan to to have a word when I get out there next time, but my honest perception is that I will be wasting breath as far as getting it repaired/replaced. When I picked up the gun, I noticed the workmanship (or lack thereof) but I was bringing a new shooter with me and didn't think it wise to start a beef given the circumstances. As a few members on this forum know, Dietz is a shop on the outskirts of New Braunfels that is run by good ole boys. The reason I chose them however is their shop appears to be fully equipped for any gunsmithing needs and the man who performed the work was plenty knowledgeable on the matter, and I am also at a loss on knowledge of competent gun shops that don't want an arm and a leg to install sights (one gentleman wanted $60, "possibly $95" just to put them on....enough said) in South Central TX since I am from D/FW originally. So thats how they ended up with the work. The whole situation just hurts my head, but I think I am going to have to just live with this one because this is the sort of place you either take what they give you, or you can kindly leave. I don't agree with it, and I would go somewhere else if I felt I had more choices but I am unaware of somewhere else I can practice or have gunsmithing done. Nevertheless, if I don't say something that is the worst thing I can do at this point. Anyway, thanks for the support guys I appreciate the sympathy pains. To look on the bright side though the gun runs like a Swiss watch and thats what I need it to do. Function over form I always say.

Man o man...I'm with you SS...I'd be all over someone like a rabid dog...It's worse than shoddy that looks like 10 yr old adjusted them. I can't believe someone could look you in the eye and take your money.

You are a much better man than I am. I would have gone ballistic and I would have never accepted the gun back in that condition.

As I posted earlier, it has to due withto the difference in rounds. 9mm and .40 are high pressure rounds, and exert more pressure (~34K & ~32.6K psi max respectively.) The .45 is a lower pressure round (~21K psi) and in turn more manageable on recoil.
