Carry @ Little League Games?

Post by seniorshooteress »

I have two grandsons that play in little league baseball. The playing field isn't any where near a school. Is this still considered a "sporting event" and I can't carry or does "sporting event" mean inside a stadium? I know if they play on school property I can't carry. Would like to know before I go to one of their games. :rules: :headscratch

Key word is 'Professional' sporting event.

The way some LL coaches act, you'd think every game was the World Series. :eek6

Little League does not fit any of those categories - unless interscholastic is defined differently by statute from the dictionary definition - so you should be OK depending upon the location of the field.

Exactly. I carried through two seasons of coaching t-ball.

Even the location of the field doesn't matter, unless it's on some federal property that prohibits carry. School fields are fine, so long as they're not the site of "high school, collegiate or professional" sporting events, or some other "interscholastic event". Little League is none of those.

Yes, everyone please DO carry your CCW to Little League games!! :thumbs2:

As a Little League umpire for 18 years in Abilene and Austin, I can tell you that I WISH I could carry at games. Not that I legally can't; but, my G23 wouldn't be too comfortable with all the protective garb I wear.

Carry it. Keep it concealed. And, Play ball!

Little League is not part of a school almost no matter where the game is played. However, if the school owns the land where the field is located then any building is a "premises" and we cannot carry. That means restrooms, locker rooms, concessions, storage buildings, press boxes and so on. A dugout is not a building in my opinion but that is up to the LEO that may arrest you if it ever came to that. Since most every LL game is played outdoors I did not include a university field that may be located in a building. So, stay out of any building on any school owned property and you will be fine to carry as you wish and remain legal. The only exception is if the building is owned by the local league.

Lancermit, you mean working in 90+ degree heat, wearing protective gear, squatting, running and dealing with coaches and parents makes you not want to carry? I can't imagine why not. :roll

Oh brother, you struck a nerve. :mrgreen: I'm a multi-sport official, including many years as a little league umpire and there have been a few games where carrying may not have been a bad idea. We may need to invent a ball bag holster. ;-)

Madam Shootres, after much consideration I have devised a fail-safe work around (just in case) for you. Simply volunteer yourself to be the teams Yosimitie Sam (sp?) mascot. Load up on blanks. Everytime your team makes a homerun...
Well, you get the picture. :tiphat:

I think parents of both teams should carry at all little league sporting events just in case things get out of hand with the scores or calls or, heaven forbid, a BG shows up in the concession stand or somewhere. :biggrinjester:

I don't think so. See what happens when someone loses their cool over a game and decides to pull a gun. http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic. ... 97&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Things can get pretty heated at times in kids sports between parents, coaches or officials. The Grand Jury eventually declined to indict him, but he still went through a lot of headaches and legal issues.

Bottom line, carry if you want, but make sure to add an extra layer of heat shield so you don't get so mad you loose your cool and do something stupid. :thumbs2:
