The key is going to be that the round does fire; any failures are a secondary concern at that point. Once that round is fired, then my primary concern becomes inserting a new mag, to keep the gun from being dry. After inserting the mag, the slide will need to be racked in order to chamber the round - in this case it seems that you'd have a double feed and have to deal with it.
It's good to practice failure drills regularly to deal with issues such as this that could easily arise - though I'm hoping that I don't have any issues when I test it out (I feel comfortable that my S&W model 36 won't have any issues
