I plan to try this out at the range today. I see being able to fire any gun without a magazine as a clear benefit over those with a magazine disconnect safety. It is entirely possible that when you need your gun the most, the magazine could be inadvertently dropped, or purposefully dropped in the case of a tactical reload. In either case, I'd like my guns to fire the chambered round.

The key is going to be that the round does fire; any failures are a secondary concern at that point. Once that round is fired, then my primary concern becomes inserting a new mag, to keep the gun from being dry. After inserting the mag, the slide will need to be racked in order to chamber the round - in this case it seems that you'd have a double feed and have to deal with it.

It's good to practice failure drills regularly to deal with issues such as this that could easily arise - though I'm hoping that I don't have any issues when I test it out (I feel comfortable that my S&W model 36 won't have any issues  ).

Whoever said to you over at the Glock forum

is correct. The owner of this Glock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11fcg543Jow put an extra pistol/rifle grip on the rails and had a friend shoot it. The grip eventually slipped off and the guy got a round across the knuckle.

I dropped the magazine on my Glock and racked the slide. The loaded round was tossed out and didn't fall back in. If it works with a loaded round, I'm sure it will toss empty brass (less mass) at least as far, as long as I don't limp wrist it.

Maybe I missed something, but it doesn't look like the guy was shooting the gun without a magazine. :headscratch

:iagree:

I have heard some good arguments for the magazine disconnect and I won't argue with someone who thinks for them, and their lifestyle, it makes sense. But for me, I want the gun to go bang when I press the trigger.

My Glock 19 works fine with no magazine. No second shot "rlol" but no FTE.

I don't think it will fire with the cylinder open. "rlol"

O.K. Mark,

I'm glad you finally got that Glock you've been ogling over (I remember a past post where you wanted one)! Welcome to the world of Glock ownership!

Did the FTE happen at the END of your range session? At the end of the range session, as the lubricating oil runs out, you could get jams. Please see my review of the Glock 26: http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic. ... +26+review" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Or, perhaps, you took the gun brand new to the range without lubricating it first?

However, the magazine spring's job is to push the empty casing out and the new ammo in. So, without the magazine inserted, a FTE is entirely expected, lubricated or not.

I will try this with my Glock tomorrow so you'll know for sure if it's just your pistol or all Glocks. BTW, why the heck do you want to shoot it without the mag? You'll only get one shot!

First thing I did when I got the new Mag was head towards the bathroom with the Manuel and get cracking :biggrinjester:
the I watched a Video about how to disassemble a glock 26
I thin disassembled my Glock 26.
wipes it down, Used a spray to get all that axle grease they use at the factory off of it,used Hopes 9, compressed air, and rags.
Then I oiled it (Slip 2000)
I then put it all back together, took it apart and then back together (Just to make sure)
I dry fired it with Snap Caps for 200-300 times that night while watching the movie 300.
I took it to the range the next day and put 300 rounds through it
Then a week later took it to the range and put 250 rounds
at this time I tried the fire without a magazine.
The still had oil and was pretty clean.

I fired my Glock 26 without the magazine once. All that happen was that the casing ejected out of the mag well and landed in my left hand.

If anyone knows Glocks it Yeager, trust me, just figure 20 guys with mostly Glocks firing 750 rounds a day x how many classes x many years

I would not use oil, its hard to control were it goes

I have 20-30k round through my Glocks, heck one 4 day class with Yeager was 3k rounds. I have used very little lube ever
