Inexpensive Tactical Flashlight - Take 2

I just got back from running around & I stopped into my local Sam's Club store near me and I ran across almost the exact same deal that austinrealtor alerted us to back on Feb. 5 that Costco was carrying. I partook of that deal and am glad I did.

It's a 2 pak of tactical flashlights. Sam's calls it "Serengeti". It's almost the exact same flashlight, with a few of exceptions:
1. It has a smooth reflector(which means a longer throw),
2. It's tail standable(which means you can use it as a candle).
3. It has an intermittent tail clicky switch, which is nice.

You can rotate the hood to adjust the beam from spot to flood. They look to be well made. The packaging claims water resistance to 1 meter for 30 minutes. The one I got from Costco...I dropped it on my concrete driveway, and it didn't effect it one bit.

Other than that, the same flashlight. Same 160 lumen Cree X-RE emitter. Powered by 3AAA batteries(included), and a wrist strap. Cost: $19.21

Its power levels are: Med, Hi & Strobe. The verbage on the packing says Med power is at 50% power level(meaning 80 lumens).

If you are in need of a secondary or back up tactical light that won't break the bank I really recommend this one. It's a true tactical flashlight. I'm so impressed with the one's I got from Cosco, that I'm going to buy one possibly two, 2 paks of those from Sam's. If nothing else, to throw them in drawers throughout the house.

I expected to see some plastic looking thing in some weird color.

I have four of the Serengeti from Sams. The price is great. The quality is good and they are plenty bright for most needs. I've dropped them and had no problems.

The "serengeti" is made in China. Please buy the Surefire. It is made in the USA. Thanks.

If you already have a surefire, but not the LED one, then just buy a LED bulb for your Surefire. You don't have to buy a new flashlight. Just search for it on ecrater.com or google.com . I had 2 two packs ordered with "Click and Pull" at a Sam's near me and when I got there they couldn't find them. They directed me to the area where camping equipment is displayed, but stiil no flashlights. They had a two pack Element 80 lumen light for 28.86. Found a really nice lady who put me with the stockers. Long story short they hadn't merchandised them at that store. I think because they wanted to sell the more expensive one first. The guys got a forklift and retrieved the entire case containing a gross. Got two packs and my friend bought a pack as well. Two other guys looking on each grabbed a pack too. This was in Houston at the Fuqua Sam's location. You may have to ask for them, item # 569309. Two lights, two sets of AAA's for $21.01. I didn't check the Friendswood Sam's. In response to being made in China, I support American made when I can, but being on a fixed income has it's down side. I am giving my two son -in-laws each a light and gave one my daughter still living with us. Either Sure fire or Streamlight would be my choice if I could afford the pop for four flashlights.

i bought this one last month. it's nice but the only problem i have is the battery. they go out quickly especially if you use the brighter one. i think i'll stick with my surefire. thanks!

Not really trying to get any one to switch. I'm glad you like the surefire. I can't really respond to battery life in this flashlight vs surefire. If your surefire is powered by CR123/s it makes sense it would last longer. CR123's were used in 35mm and other cameras with mechanical drives long before being applied to flashlights. Power drain is far greater in a mechanical application. Battery technology continues to improve with NiZn and Li-ion, both far superior to CZn Alkaline and even Ni-MH. I use rechargable Ni-MH in AAA and NiZn (powergenix) in AA.

After reading this post and needed some supplies from Sam's put that Flashlght on my list & headed out this afternoon. My local sams' only had the brand Element. It doesn't do any of the neat stuff the Serengeti one discribed does. Only has 2 options bright and low. I got one package at $29.99 maybe they will get the other/better ones in by the time I make my next trip. Was kinda looking forward to the strobe light effect.

Visiting daughter in Grand Prairie and saw the Serengeti light for $19.91 while I was shopping, That's a buck ten cheaper than Houston.
