Are Looks Important?

Looks are so very important that my next carry piece will be a pair of these. Best part is you don't even need a CHL to carry them.

Of the three that rm9792 posted, I'd pick the third one. The first two are just a bit too fancy for me -- wife would probably like 'em, though.

On the original question, I agree with the gentleman who said that life's too short to carry an ugly gun.

On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest value, where are looks in your initial considerations?

For my purposes right now, looks ranks 0 on a 1-5 scale for handguns. . . .

Now, if we ever get Open Carry rights in this state, then certainly a gorgeous shiny 1911 would be a likely purchase, with an equally stunning Tucker Gunleather holster/belt rig. I'd wear it to weddings and big events with my black suit, cowboy boots, and a big belt buckle.

Until then, no one knows just how ugly my Glocks are because they're concealed anyway. So who cares what it looks like?

Concealed or open, how my gun looks is last on my list.

The more I think about this, the more I think "beauty in the eye of the BEHOLDER" is most important. After all, if a nickel plated .25 auto with pink grips scares the particular bad guy you're pointing it just as much as a hard chrome 1911 with pearl grips or or Glock 21 with tactical laser & light, then whatever does the job and makes the bad guy "beholder" stop in his tracks and lose control of his bowels is "beautiful".

Remember, we're not trying to impress ourselves. We're trying to "impress" the bad guy

Yes, looks are important. Just like choosing your dog; you must consider cosmetics. My Glock is beautiful just like my friend Maggie.

Function comes first, but there's nothing wrong with a functioning gun that looks great, I would have rather have a Sig P229 Equinox because it looks better than the 229 SCT I bought. I went with the SCT because it was significantly cheaper and lost no functionality.

My carry pistol is a Beretta Cougar and even after 7 years, I still think it's a somewhat non-attractive pistol. However, it was only one of two that I tried (and I tried a bunch) that actually fit my hand with all the controls right where they needed to be.

The Beretta Cougar is my favorite gun.
