Need input on 1911 Purchase- Decision Made !!!

Spend it now or spend it later. If you buy a $500 1911, chances are, you will put another few hundred into it to make it right.

You usually get what you pay for, and based on my personal homework its a flip of the coin on a Rock Island Armory on getting a good or bad one. After much trial and tribulation, I decided to cut the bull and go with the original Colt. I can gladly say I wasn't and still am not disappointed. Good luck in your search! 1911s rock

I love my Kimber Crimson Carry 3". Daily carry, 800 rounds and not one failure. In addition to that, I have a 4" Tactical Pro II, and just put down a deposit on a 5" Custome TLE. I have never had any issues with any of them.

1911 is a sickness that I do not want to recover from. Give me more!!

Echoing ddstuder, but I'll add this... please consider a used high end 1911. I paid $650 for a very nice used 5" Springfield Loaded Parkerized. You can probably pick up a lesser model than the Loaded for for less than that, and you might even be able to beat the price I paid for mine. Yes, it is $200 more than your price point, but it is also $310 lower than the MSRP of $959.00 for a new one. I have a parkerized 1911 that was built in 1943 by Ithaca and carried by my dad in WW2. It is still in very good condition and shoots just fine, 67 years after it was manufactured. A well-made 1911 will last for as long as you want to keep it...

...and you'll want to keep it, and many others, for a long, long time.

And I agree that the commander sized gun is probably the best all around version. The treacherous hussy of a Sig GSR that I finally got rid of was a commander sized pistol, and it was perfect in my hand. Too bad it wasn't worth a cup of warm spit for reliability. I currently own one 3" and two 5" 1911s. My son has a 4" Kimber and a 5" Taurus (another brand you should take a hard look at). I want a 4" version for myself.

I just went through much of the same decisions only realized what was just stated above about going just a bit more. It is worth it. Took more time and searching etc, but I just got my Springfield, loaded, lightweight bitone new for $810.00 plus ship and transfer. Really love this one and it is my first 1911. It is a bit more than you are wanting to spend but a really fine weapon. MSRP was much higher than that. You just got to look.

Ok, after tossing and turning all night I went back to the gun store and fondled a few more guns.(just got back)

I decided to take the advice of "you get what you pay for".

I saw this and it was calling me....



It's the Kimber Custom II

Next, I flipped over the price tag and was somewhat surprised that it wasn't too far out of the price range I set for myself.
So, I put down the 20% down payment and will pay it off over the next 90 days.

I'm very happy with my decision and would like to thank everyone for your input.

Wow! Congrats! I don't think you'll be disappointed for sure! I didn't know you were entertaining ideas on a full sized model though. In any event, good choice......you bum!

Actually, at first I didn't. But after seeing how slim this gun is, I don't think concealing it will be a problem.

After giving it careful thought, I decided that if I ever had to pull it I want a big gun, a lot of gun, with big bullets.

I sure can't argue with that reasoning! I've only had one 1911 in my lifetime, and I sure did love that gun. (wish I had it now.) I'll bet you will find it very easy to shoot with quick target acquisition. The quick won't be bad either!

I agree with that.

To me, width is more important.
I can see this being a little easier to carry than the XD or a Glock just because of how slim it is.
Now the weight might be another story.

Well that problem is easy to solve. Just go on a diet and lose 2 lbs.

Hmmm....but to do that, you'll have to give up Mexican food.

On second thought, just buy a bigger belt.
