I am not sure what Amon Carter is (maybe a convention center or something owned by the city?).
But, when the Pasadena Convention Center (city owned) has their monthly gun show, as soon as you walk inside the door, there are (presumably) off-duty officers asking if you have any weapons, so they can zip-tie them open, and they also have a 30.06 sign sitting next to them on the table, and they also state (verbally) that if you are a CHL, you need to remove your concealed weapon. - Legal? No idea... but they have the sign and they state it.

Ditto here. You can open carry all day long but no concealed weapons allowed. That's their only way of ensuring all guns are unloaded and zip-tied.

I'm always amazed at the amount of ammo that's in the "Forgot to Unload" jar they keep at the front entrance. It's scary to think there's that many folks who don't bother to check.

It may be owned by the city, but a private business entity leases it, and I believe that the private entity is who is posting the 30.06 signs, as during the terms of the lease, they are in control of the facility. I don't like it, but I believe that it is legal.

I used to have an FFL, back in the 70's, and made all the local Gun Shows. A friend and I would team up and get a couple of tables together.
Once-in-a-blue moon there would be a discharge, getting everyone's full attention.
However, I can not remember a single instance where the discharge was not by a LEO, checking the firearm before installing the zip-tie.

I'll be going Saturday morning early. I get to arise and leave home at 5am to take my wife to DFW to catch her 8:00 flight to Michigan for a week with her family. I'm interested in another carry weapon but I'm not convinced a gun show is the place to find a good deal on a good weapon. At the last Fort Worth show my boss went. He found a "New in box" Ruger Single Six with 2 cylinders. He looked it over good, he thought, and was satisfied it was as represented so made the purchase. It had the 22mag cylinder installed and of course zip tied. When he got to the ranch the following weekend he unboxed it and realized that the 22 mag cylinder didn't have a matching serial number to the other cylinder and the gun. Otherwise the gun shoots fine but we can't help feeling a little ripped off because it wasn't represented that way.

I'm really not much of a gun shopper, trader, seller, etc. When I do buy one my intention is to make it part of the family so I really don't feel comfortable in my ability to judge the value or condition of used guns and then make a purchase from someone I'll probably never see again.

I've only ever been to a Gun Show one time and really didn't enjoy it. There's just something about standing in the busy isles trying to look at guns while 2 or 3 big ol bruisers walk shoulder to shoulder behind you with their mouths and hands full of hotdogs impolitely pushing you into the display. Knowing you now probably have a big ol splotch of mustard smeared on your back after it dripped off the dude's elbow.

Grrrrrrrrrrr....maybe I won't be going after all....lol

OH, and I forgot I also get to pay to park my truck AND pay to get in the door. WOW, I can't wait!!!

I'm not convinced a gun show is the place to find a good deal on a good weapon.

I am very new to gun shows, as I have been to 3 - ever.. and all in the last 3 months.
All 3 were at Pasadena Convention Center.

1st was a "High Caliber Gun Show", where after looking at various stores (like Academy) for my to get a weapon, we picked up a NIB Glock 19 for about $480 (including tax), which was about $50 or so less than at Academy.

2nd was another "brand" of Gun Shows, and it was a lot of trinkets, and a lot fewer guns, and the prices seemed quite high, much higher than Academy and others.
Even like my Sigma, brand new is $329 and with a $50 rebate [edited to add: taking it to $279] or 2 extra mags, they were selling them at $359.

Then I went back to the next one, a "High Caliber" again, and lower prices, better selections.

So I have decided that I will only go to the "High Caliber" brand gun shows.

hmmmmm. Just goes to show how experiences among individuals can vary. I've bought and sold at gun shows, and
have never been ripped off. You have to know what you're looking at/for.... just like a used car, as is where is. Most
dealers will cut the tie off the gun so you can inspect, then replace the tie as soon as you're through. You have to ask.
I often attend the Dallas Gun Shows at market Hall. I find the crowd at the show to be very polite. If bumped, it's almost a
contest to see which party can say "pardon me" or "sorry" first. Market Hall parking lots are free.
Although smaller, the Mesquite Gun Shows sport a similar crowd (the parking is free there too). I hope you have a better
experience if you ever decide to attend another gun show.

But even during the lease, is it still 'owned... by a government entity'.

Also, the fact that they zip-tie your handgun, and allow you to re-conceal it...

The concealed weapon statutes make no difference between if it's loaded, unloaded, ziptied, or not ziptied.
A concealed handgun, unloaded, with a ziptie through it, is still a concealed handgun, regulated by 46.035 and 30.06.
So they can't say that you are not allowed to carry a loaded, concealed handgun, but you are allowed to carry an unloaded, ziptied, concealed handgun. There's no provision for that difference in the statutes. Either both are illegal, or neither are.
