Panhandled inside Walmart

Post by wheelgun1958 »

My son and I were in the Frisco Walmart around 11ish Sunday night. A white male walked up to me in the aisle and asked for $1 for gas money. I gave him 2 and he went his way. I told my son (20 years old University student) that I didn't mind helping a guy out as I've been there but it's odd being panhandled inside Walmart. As we exited I told him to watch for the panhandler in the parking lot. I had my S&W 4516-1 IWB under the requisite Hawaiian shirt with denim shorts and sandals. The panhandler appeared to be a normal looking guy maybe down on his luck but $1 sure isn't going to buy much gas.

Doesn't surprise me. Remember the lady who was robbed inside a Walmart?

Maybe the guy was legit and you just did a good deed and that's all there was to it.
I sure would've kept my eye on him though.

What is it about Walmarts?

I see them outside Walmart in Sherman quite a bit. I think it is the fact that Walmart draws a LOT of traffic and is better picking grounds for them than any other place they can think of.

When I used to buy gas at the QT gas station on
Business 121 in Lewisville, that was the place I would
get panhandled a lot.

One night a woman in a late model Mustang asked me
for gas money since she had to go up to Denton (about
15 miles) to get her kids. Oh, and the back windshield
was broken out.

I said to her "You're driving a brand new Mustang and you
don't have money for gas?" She said "That's right. What can
I say, I make bad decisions. The car's going to be repossessed
soon anyway."

Well I felt bad for her kids if they really existed, so I gave her
$5 for gas.

She uses my money for gas, then drives out of the station and
heads to Grapevine on Business 121, which is exactly the opposite way than
going to Denton to get her kids! Sheesh.

I tell them that if they run out of gas they can call TDPS and get some. I don't carry cash much but even if I did I wouldn't give them any. Charity without wisdom is not charity.

I had a guy in El Paso ask me for money and when I told him to go away his cell phone rang and he walked off. If the guy can afford a cell phone he can afford transportation to a job.

A $.50 can of beans would have given more gas.
