Here is my better half shooting the plate rack at PSC. MY GOSH, SHE'S GOOD!!! She's shooting my M & P 9mm. On her hip is her USP compact 9mm in a Tucker "Silent Thunder" kydex/leather-lined holster. Watch out for her at the next IDPA match folks!

however, having JUST taken PSC orientation on Monday, one of the points stressed about the steel target range but also talked about on the other ranges was always shoot perpendicular to the target, never across. he specifically stated with the steel targets to only shoot on one set, if you want to shoot the other, you have to move to the other (even though they are side by side)

edited to add: the reason is safety as he stressed over and over - the first 3 rules at PCS, Safety, Safety and Safety.

Neither here, nor in the official rules does it specify that you cannot shoot at both sets without repositioning. I also submit that she was shooting perpendicular to the end berm as required in the rules.

If in fact your orientation included instruction in regard to the plate rack, then that is new. When we had our orientation a couple of years ago (there were four of us in attendance), the steel plate rack was not discussed at all.

no worries Lynn, just stating what we were told.
you are the experienced shooter, and trust me, I am not trying to cause an issue, only trying to follow the rules and as we were told at orientation, we are to enforce the rules if we see an infraction.

Hey Teamless, it's all good! I can assure you that williamkevin and I are more of the rule follower type, not the rule breaker type. You just can't follow rules that you've never heard or read about. Maybe a PM would be more in order next time. I don't think anyone ever feels good about being called out in public.

And I'm flattered that you think I'm an experienced shooter. I've only been shooting for about a year. I've just had some great teachers, including williamkevin.

Speaking of which, I think it's pretty awesome that he's so proud of me and likes to brag now and again, even if it embarasses me a bit. What he didn't mention is that he walked up to the plate rack and took out all 12 plates with 12 rounds (sorry, but yeah, I guess he was breaking the unknown rule too ) his first time up to shoot that day. I'm not the one folks need to watch out for. I think he's just trying to create a diversion to keep the attention of off himself.

Couldn't have been the wind....I did have on safety glasses, but it was darned windy on Sunday. Unfortunately, I think it was a flash of overconfidence. You're right...it's better than paper and not nearly as humbling as that dang Texas Star.

You are absolutely correct, and i will bear that in mind :)

If you have been shooting for a year, you have me beat by about 8 months (except for when I was a kid with a 22 Rifle and a bit of shotgun use)
And I am still at the point with my pistol that I want to pull up, sight it and shoot. I have to work on the instinct shooting, which obviously you are well versed in to go from target to target to target and hit 12 out of 13 rounds.
It would be my pleasure to learn from all of the experienced shooters, including yourself. That is why I joined PSC, to become a better shooter, with more confidence.

Much like I do about my wife and her bowling. She is quite the bowler. not a pro, but with a 210 average or so, that's pretty darn good in most people's books.

If this is the rule, then it should be specifically mentioned in the PSC newsletter. Like the experience of TLynn and williamkevin, when my wife and I joined, the plate rack was open only to those who had received a specific plate rack briefing from the appropriate authority (I believe it was Charles, as the pistol director), so plate rack wasn't mentioned at all during the orientation.

For what it's worth, when I shoot across all twelve targets, I stand in the middle of the canyon, at the inner end of one of the tables, so no significant angle shots. If this is wrong, I'd appreciate being notified (but not fussed at).

I took it as a Rule because the person giving the orientation (Mark I think) said that we could not shoot both sets of 6 without moving to the other set, as we were all standing in front of the plate rack.

I do hope I did not come across as fussing, as that was not my intent. (And she and I have already discussed that part, so that is a dead issue for me and I believe for her as well)
