Found an Old Receipt

It almost made me weep. I was going through my gun manuals, reciepts, warranty cards etc and found the receipt for my first AR-15. A Bushmaster XM-15 Hbar I bought in 2005 at the low price of $789.00. Yeah, it gets better, I also purchased 2-1,000 round cases of Black Hills blue box .223 55gr FMJ for only $189 a case, thats 18.9 cents a round. My how far we have come. Too bad I can't get 3-400% return on my non-ammo investments.

I still have the sales receipt for a Ruger Security Six from 1972. $87.50 + tax, brand new blue 4" .357 magnum. Good shooter, too.

TAM, I got a Smith and Wesson 629 in 1995 and paid around what you did. It is an awesome revolver, but boy did Smith and Wesson raise their prices since then. A good S&W revolver these days is pushing $1000 in many cases. The last couple of wheel guns I bought were Rugers because I just did not want to fork over that kind of cash. Oh for the good old days!

shot Lee Harvey Oswald cost him $62.50 in 1960,
and was bought by a Dallas Police Officer.

The lawman didn't have to pay the sales tax, which
saved Ruby some money.

Back in early 1945 when my dad was getting ready to ship out to Iwo Jima from Pendelton, he had to buy his own sidearm because there weren't enough issue 1911s to go around. He walked into a hardware store in Glendale, California, and bought himself a nickle-plated Government Model .45 for $25.00. The weapon was taken from him at the aid station after he was wounded. Later, he confiscated a 1943 vintage Ithaca 1911 from one of his men who had accidentally shot himself with it on Guam, and figuring that Ma Green owed him one Government Model .45, he brought it home. It's sitting in my safe as I type this.

Speaking of appropriating someone else's 1911:

I was watching a documentary on the Vietnam War's
Tet Offensive. The American Embassy in Saigon was
overrun by multiple Viet Cong.

The action was narrated by a Marine who was there. He
appeared to be a Boston guy by his accent.

One of the Americans was trapped on the 2nd floor of the
Embassy, and knew that VC were roaming the building.
He had no weapon with which to defend his life.

The Marine on the ground threw up his 1911 to the diplomat.
Just after he caught the gun, a very tall VC entered the room.

The diplomat dropped him DRT with the .45.

After the area was secured, the Marine asked the diplomat for
his 1911 back. The diplomat said no, that he was going to keep
it because it saved his bacon.
