Pinal Co. Deputy Shot by Illegals

Post by pbwalker »

http://wap.myfoxphoenix.com/w/main/story/10778135/
A Pinal County sheriff's deputy is hanging for dear life after he's shot by a group of suspected illegal immigrants Friday.

It happened during patrol on the I-8 west of Casa Grande and south of Phoenix. The deputy radioed in to report he was shot in the abdomen with an AK-47 assault rifle while in a desert area, Pinal County Sheriff's spokeswoman Tamatha Villar says.
I hope he didn't violate their rights!

Since we know they all cross the border with only peaceful intentions, looking for the jobs no one else will do, I'm sure this story is a fabrication. Really - consider the source: FOXNews? Can't be true. Nope. :grumble

They must have been the only bad apples amidst all the kind, peace loving people who have immigrated over illegally.

He got in the way of their peacefully fired bullet, didn't he? Sounds open and shot to me. (Pun intended.)

There isn't much violence associated with smuggling aliens, except against the aliens themselves (mostly by those taking advantage of them). The violence here was because of the "several bales of marijuana". This was a drug smuggling operation.

And, as always, the violence is a direct result of prohibition. E-Z Mart and 7-11 don't have gun battles over Budweiser. When something is outlawed, and especially when it's cracked down on, the stakes go up.

Violence is a result of people (i.e. bad guys tend to do bad things). When prohibition ended, the gangs did not suddenly dry up and become model citizens, they just changed their business to a different product. You may be able to impact the level of violence or shift it into other directions, but you are not going to make it go away.

You can't make it go away, but you can reduce the incentive. The more illegal, the higher the stakes. The higher the stakes, the riskier the venture. The riskier it is, the higher the profit potential. And the higher the profit potential, the more people will be willing to do anything, including use violence, to get the money.

But back on topic: these were "suspected illegal aliens" engaged in a major drug movement. Again, I'll put my money on the drug smuggling being behind the shooting. Nobody shoots a cop for the chance to hang drywall or pick tomatoes.

I have to agree with Chabouk. If the law had not just passed in Arizona, or if the shooting had occurred in Texas, the headlines would have read "Deputy shot by drug smugglers". While they probably were also illegally in the US, they were not immigrants. That indicates an intention to stay. If they are just making the drug run, they are smugglers and the shooting was motivated by the drugs.

Obviously, this is just my opinion on the way the media uses words to inflame feelings instead of reporting facts. Talk to me about "insurgents" or "resistance" oen day.
