Ammo for the Ultra 1911's

Post by Diode »

Mr. Camp, I have switched my carry to a Kimber Untra II. Have you done in test on the standard and +P ammo in the smaller 3in. 1911s? I really found the snubby test you just did very interesting and now I wonder what I should be loading my 3in. with?

jim

PS Anyone wanting to mkae suggestions on what their using by all means chime in :)

Have you seen the post about Speer's Short Barrel JHP 45acp rounds? Apparently they were designed for 3" barrels. Someone else posted up about using them.

I too am most interested in what is recommended and more importantly, what is not.

As a matter of fact I did see that thread. Glad you reminded me of it. I imagine we'll see alot of that soon. I think the popularity of the 1911 in compact size more ammo mfg's will want to sell the ammo for it.

I use Speer GD 230gr JHP's. They work fine.

You gotta wonder what you're getting out of +P in a 3" barrel.... you're not even burning all the powder in a standard round.

Winchester Ranger RA45T 230gr functions 100% and hits point of aim in my 3" kimber so that's what I use in it.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Hello. I'm not really a user of the really compact .45's but I'd go with the Corbon DPX "Compact Gun Load" or the Speer ammo for shorter bbls.

Best.

Try the Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P for short barrel guns if you are carrying a 9mm like the Kimber Aegis II. The Speer web site has the stock number so that if you order over the internet you will be sure to get the version made for short barrel guns.
