Question for 1911 owners

I have a Rock Island 1911 GI model. Its been flawless, shoots anything I throw at it.

HOWEVER, I should have gone with the tactical model with the better sights...GI style sights are REALLY hard to see at an indoor range/night.

Not really a bad thing, because now you can send the slide to Novak and have them cut properly. The RIA Tactical uses non-standard cuts (at least on the front sight), making it a bear to replace them later should you want to.

Interesting....I hate to part with this gun for long but I guess I should look into it. My poor Taurus has been collecting dust lately I like carrying the 1911 so much...

I have two 1911s that I carry. You'll never regret buying one, regardless of which brand you start out with.

I have been bitten by the 1911 bug and have been wanting to get one forever. I am looking for a tactical RIA 1911 in the DFW area and cannot locate one that isnt "overpriced". I can get one on Sarco's site for $405, but have been told that I can get them cheaper.

I will pay cash and I have a CHL. I am looking for a used tactical RIA 1911 and was hoping someone either had one for sale OR could tell me where I could buy a used one. Any ideas???????

I have called the few places I know of in this area and they dont have a RIA OR the price is unbelieveable. I went to the ft worth gun show a few weeks ago and the prices werent that good. I just want to give a 1911 a good home in my holster!!!!

Honestly, that Sarco price for the Tactical is pretty good. I don't think I've ever seen one cheaper. You can't really compare the Tactical to the Standard for pricing, as there are enough upgrades in there to more than make up for that $26 price difference. If I were ready to buy today, I'd probably jump all over that Sarco gun. Get an FFL with inexpensive transfer fees, and you'll have that in your hands for under $450. That's a good deal on a carry-ready 1911 with an improved trigger, combat sights, and a commander hammer. My only suggestion for modification would be to replace the firing pin spring with an extra heavy one, as there's no firing pin safety system (to prevent muzzle-drop discharges) on the gun. I personally prefer that solution to the mechanical complications that other manufacturers use for firing pin safeties.

As for used ones, I don't think I've come across an individual selling one. They're too good of a deal to let go once you have one.

In addition to all of the other reasons already mentioned, I have to admit that I had one other reason. My first duty gun was a 1911 when i was an MP in 1976. I carried one for the Army and got to know it so well, it is just an old friend. I feel most at ease with the weapon when i know it as well as I do a 1911.

For the cops who started out carrying a Glock as a young rookie, i am sure that they will find the same emotional attachment that way. I know a lot of revolver guys who stayed that way until the department forced them to change, mostly for that reason.

And to help some understand, I like Yamaha's for the same reason. I learned to ride on a Yamaha and it has just stayed with me ever since. I ride others, just as I have other types of pistols, but my personal choice is still the old emotional favorite.

PS. from what I have seen in ads and designs lately, I am guessing a lot of marketing specialists fully understand this emotional attachment and nostalgia too.

is doing a ffl as simple as locating someone that does it and then just telling sarco to deliver there. Then calling the ffl place and arranging for the pick up? I have seen prices in the 15-25 range. assuming that is normal.''

I am really hoping to find a used RIA tactical for $350 that I can pick up in the DFW area (pawn shop or a gun store). Does anyone know of pawn shops/gun stores that sell used RIA's?

I carry 1911's and for the reasons already mentioned. I also want to add that the 1911 trigger is the best available, especially when you get Ed Vanden Berg to do a trigger job. Once you have shot a good 1911 trigger, well . . .

There is the winnah. Even an average 1911 trigger is better than the single action triggers on most other semi-autos.
