Funny. I always thought that governments had the same problem. Also - if the bad guys are that hard to find, us LEOs probably can't spot them out and we need everyone to be able to protect themselves - just in case a bad guy slips by all the laws in place to keep us safe.

They should make it illegal to NOT open carry a gun - every law-abiding citizen (the good guys) MUST carry a gun. That way, anyone who doesn't have a gun on them is automatically stopped. Either they're a felon (and can't own a gun) or they're a felon who's hiding a gun That way they'll have no problem telling the good guys from the bad guys

Hm...kind of lends credence to the theory put forth in the other thread that more businesses would go through the trouble to start posting valid 30.06 signs if Texas had open carry...

Ahhhh, Im glad that I live in Texas. My mother took a job in Marin County last June and came back to Texas in December. (She hated it, obviously, plus the University of Texas offered her a director's positions coupled with tenure track teaching duties.) I went to visit her 4 times and I felt like I was in a foreign country. People wont even respond when you say "Hi"!!

The whole Starbucks episode started in California, and Starbucks took a bold step to welcome all law-abiding customers, even if they were OC'ing.

So, no: no credence.

And it shouldn't be necessary to point it out, but Texas is not California.

I worked in Marin County for over 30 years, believe me, it IS a Foreign country! As is most of Northern Cal.
I love it here,feels like its where I belong. People wave to you here, people actually stop and talk to you here whether they know you or not. So refreshing.

I read an article recently that demonstrated that when states leave cc up to the cities and/or counties, discrimination reigns supreme. For example, New York City almost never issues permits, but they have no problem issuing them to rich people who claim they need them for protection. Other states have shown a clear bias against minorities carrying. The city of Chicago won't allow anyone to carry a handgun, except for those favored few who are allowed to become special deputies so they can carry.

If you're going to have laws to regulate our rights, they should be uniform across the state and not up to the arbitrary decision of a local politician. It's past time that we took the power out of the hands of arbitrary and capricious politicians and standardized access in our laws. Thankfully Texas, and a number of other states, have done that, at least with regard to handguns. The same "person-blind" logic needs to be applied to all our laws.

That is indeed a sad thing. I did a little stat work based on those numbers(from 2006). Assuming those given are correct:

In 2006, in those cities in California listed I count a total of 6,596 licenses.

In 2009 alone:
Dallas county issued 8,175
Bexar county issued 7,001
Harris county issued 23,967
Tarrant county issued 10,325

In Arlington alone 2,398 new licenses were issued, and 3,692 for Fort Worth
(those city numbers aren't verified because I had to manually add them up by zip code)

That's a pretty sad comparison. I feel for the California folks. Makes me doubly glad I'm in Texas.

What's worse about California, is that a permit issued by the sheriff of county A does not have to be recognized by the sheriff of county B. Back in the '80s and early '90s, there was a sheriff of an inland, mid-state rural county who was fairly easy going about whom he issued permits to, and it kind of got to be public knowledge in the RKBA crowd. Pretty soon, sheriffs in other counties were publicly announcing that they would not recognize permits issued by other counties.
