Pelican 1740 or 1770 Case
Anybody have either one of these? If so, can you give me an idea of how many guns one could safely load in one?

Re: Pelican 1740 or 1770 Case
I don't have one, but I love these cases. I use a different model to protect my 17" laptop and it does a great job. Heavy as all get out but I feel like my laptop could survive a tornado.

Re: Pelican 1740 or 1770 Case
No specific experience with those models, but Pelican is the cream of the crop of hard-sided protective cases. I have three Pelicans to protect camera equipment, one small case that I use occassionally to transport locked pistols, and would've owned a Pelican rifle case but my Savage .308 was exactly one half inch too long for one case and the next size up was WAY too long. So I ended up with a Boyt case instead - similar design, but not the same Pelican quality. Boyt case isn't bad, but I'd rather hav a Pelican.
I've seen photos of these cases in use and it seems you can stack something like 10 AR-15 type rifles in them 5 going one way and 5 the other, staggered? But I think there is a special insert to facilitate this (not just the pick-n-pluck foam).

Here ya go, some examples (this is the larger 1780, but gives some idea of the specialized inner compartments):

Re: Pelican 1740 or 1770 Case
This question ties in to my previous one about transporting a quantity of firearms across state lines.
It turns out that shipping is a viable option (I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong), but trying to find a suitable container to move 7 long guns and 5 handguns safely seems like the quest for the holy Grail. At least, it is without utterly breaking the bank.
I'll also admit that I'm utterly frustrated by the entire process. So, I'm wide open to suggestions, if anyone has any. Or if anyone has a case or cases that they would like to sell, or rent out, whatever....I know that's probably too much to hope for.
Thanks for all your help so far. And thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Pelican 1740 or 1770 Case
I've seen people use PVC pipe to make gun traveling/shipping tubes. But depending on size and type of long gun (scoped rifles and anything with a pistol grip are difficult) this canquickly become cost-prohibitive as you move into larger 6-inch and 8-inch PVC drain pipes - abot $50-$75 per tube per gun
but a number of basic shotguns and scopeless rifles (especially if buttstocks can be removed and repositioned to maximize space) and it could work out relatively inexpensively.
