Is the Alliance Air Show in Fort Worth a no-carry event?

Post by propellerhead »

I don't think it's a military installation, nor is it a secure area of the airport. Anyone been there? Any 30.06 signs?

I was just about to ask the same thing.
I'm tempted to email the contact on the website, but I don't want to raise a red flag.

I plan to carry but if someone knows for sure it's not allowed then I won't bring it. I don't like leaving my gun in my car.

The Spirit of AllianceSM

Over a decade ago, the City of Fort Worth, the FAA and Alliance began work on the first purely industrial airport in the Western Hemisphere. The airport officially opened on December 14, 1989, and the Spirit of Alliance took flight. Today, Fort Worth Alliance Airport features the full complement of flight services and is the cornerstone for the nation's fastest-growing industrial complex. There is no finer facility for general and industrial aviation than Fort Worth Alliance Airport.

Owned by the City of Fort Worth and managed by privately-held Alliance Air Services, Fort Worth Alliance Airport provides state-of-the-art infrastructure and an award-winning FAA Control Tower. It is FAR Part 139 certified and operates 24 / 7 / 365. AFW offers direct taxiway access to nearby corporate residents in Alliance Center. World-class concierge services for pilots, crew and passengers are coordinated by Alliance Aviation Services, which manages the Fixed Base Operation (FBO). Whether needs are for air cargo, corporate aviation or military, Fort Worth Alliance Airport can accommodate.
(My emphasis)

Definitely not a military installation.

I Went

Post by Rex B »

I went there today.
Not a problem, no signs.

They do check your bags, purses etc, but I'm not sure what they are looking for. Probably food, so you won't beat the concessions out of any money.

If you go Sunday, I'd suggest you take in your own water if they will let you. They advertised free water, but the reality was a long line to get a little cone-shaped paper cup of water. It's a wonder they didn't have people dropping all over the tarmac.

We went. I didn't carry. As stated above, they were only checking purses and backpacks. No signs.

And now we have a thread for those that will search for this question next year. :)

Very hot!!!!

Post by jbenat »

We went Saturday but did not carry because we had to park quite a distance from the entry and I didn't want to get to the gate & have to go back to the car.
It's a small miracle that people weren't passing out left & right. It was very hot standing on concrete for hours. Most of the time we were huddled under whatever shade we could find. I bought a couple bottles of warm water for $3.00 each before they announced they had free warm water.
They advertised free admission but charged $10.00 for parking. Not too bad but we had to drive a Jaguar over a curb, coming & going, to park in the grass.
We had our choice of going to the Denton gun show or air show. Wish we had gone to the gun show.

no water

Post by Rex B »

They advertised free admission an $10 parking, but no one ever asked me for the $10, so I parked free. Never saw anyone collecting, all were directing.

They advertised "Don't bring water, free water is available".
Sure it was ---If you wanted to stand in a very long line to get one of those cone-shaped paper cups of water. We paid the $3.00 for bottled and made a note to bring our own if we ever came back.

I think maybe they were a little everwhelmed.

Re: no water

Post by Chris »

as always, i brought two hydration backpacks. we had plenty of water to go around, and it was nice and cold. i knew they would be searching, but the guy just looked at my backpacks and said, "you're good." a big box of baby wipes was also in the pack, so we did pretty well out on the grass. anytime you stand on the concrete, the heat radiates off of it and it's a few degrees hotter than it is in the grass.

i was disappointed in the thunderbirds. i doubt i'll go see them again. the blue angels booted them into a lesser class of show. that air show did have one of the best static displays i've seen in a while. i was in my jeep, so when it came time to go, i made a bee line to the on-ramp and missed all that traffic on the access road too. i got lucky.

i also went armed.

show

Post by Rex B »

I've seen the Thunderbirds since I was a kid. I think in recent decades they have tamed their show down a bit because of some of the accidents that have taken place. At any rate, those pilots are top notch, but there's only so many things you can do with an F16.
For my money, the guy that was flying a regular military F16 earlier was doing more interesting stunts.
That was the best collection of military aircraft I've seen since my days as a SAC brat in the 1950s. I would have liked to see more experimental and homebuilt planes.
