I heard about this on WBAP this morning. Ft. Worth police spokesman said on the radio that the citizen who opened fire had a CHL and will not be charged as he believed he was aiding a police officer in trouble.

A car carrying two men tried to run down a Fort Worth police officer early Thursday in the Historic Stockyards area, and one of the men wound up in the hospital with a gunshot wound, police said.
The officer apparently was unhurt.
Initial police reports stated that the officer, shortly after 3 a.m., responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle -- a late-model tan or gold Mercedes -- in the alley behind a bar in the 2400 block of North Main Street.
The driver of the car reportedly tried to run the officer down, and the officer opened fire, said Sgt. Chad Mahaffey, police spokesman.
A bystander heard the gunfire and, thinking the officer had been killed, opened fire with his own gun.
The Mercedes sped away, and a short time later, a wounded man was dropped off at a convenience store near the intersection of Yucca Avenue and Interstate 35W, Mahaffey said.
The car had the same description as the one in the alley, Mahaffey said.
The man, believed to have been a passenger in the Mercedes, had a gunshot wound to his right arm. but it was unclear if he had been hit by the officer or the citizen, Mahaffey said. He was taken to the hospital, but his wound did was not life-threatening, Mahaffey said.
Police, Thursday morning, were still looking for the Mercedes, and its driver. He is a white man, in his late 40s to early 50s, with a long gray ponytail and scraggly beard, Mahaffey said.
