Neither the DEMS nor the REPUBS want to alienate or otherwise offend this gigantic bloc of future voters entering OUR country illegally. Therein lies the problem in a nutshell. They don't care about the country and the border states, it's all about re-election.Kythas wrote:The Obama administration has stated the troops will NOT be used to enforce U.S. immigration law. I didn't see where it said they'll be unarmed, but yeah, thats a good idea to send unarmed troops down to stop the machine gun totin' drug cartel guys and the illegal gun trade ... otherwise someone could get hurt.Kythas wrote:The Obama administration has stated the troops will NOT be used to enforce U.S. immigration law. "Obama's announcement came less than a week after a state visit to Washington by Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who asked for greater US backing for a bloody three-year-old war on drug cartels.
Drug violence has claimed the lives of nearly 23,000 people over the past three years."
Wouldn't it be cheaper and safer for everyone if they just print up and post THIS IS A DRUG FREE ZONE signs?

I propose we set up classes to help any drug cartel people who are dyslexic and have trouble reading the signs too ...
Who would ignore a sign like that on purpose?
I bet they'd be just as effective as the gun free zone signs ... which we should also post down there.
That would have stopped all that nonsense long ago.

Was the Imbecile-in Chief born that stupid or did he have to practice? I wish that being a brain-dead moron was an impeachable offense.

Considering what the problem is, and how it is apparent to everyone with a brain to figure out that this move is purely political, and not meant to do ANYTHING about the problem...
I would summize that it is too little too late again, until someone else loses their life at the hands of a criminal illegally in this country to begin with...
But hey, what do I know, ehhh???
Its a shame, because both sides suffer, regardless of who occupies the big chair in this country...

The flip side is, you can send all the enforcement you want. But if you hobble the ROEs and/or refuse to follow up after detention, then you just spent a lot of money, placed men at risk and accomplished nothing.austinrealtor wrote:Careful what we wish for ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esequiel_Hern%C3%A1ndez_Jr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mr. Hernandez was an AMERICAN CITIZEN gunned down by stealth Marines in ghillie camo on his family's property inside the US. HIs crime? He raised a .22 rifle in the general direction of the Marines, thinking he saw something move in the brush that could be stalking his goats.
Not blaming the Marines here - they did what they were trained to do: eliminate a perceived threat. The whole point is armed military patrols on US soil like this can lead to devistating consequences.
I'm all for sealing the borders tightly. But this must be done in a smart way, not just sending troops down there to appease the shouts of an angry public. This has the stinking pattern of a Clinton move![]()
We need real solutions to this problem, not lip service and a few more military troops. What Arizona recently passed is much more effective and less potentially harmful.
I too get queasy when we have troops running around, National Guard or not. The memory of the Clinton/Reno invasions is still fresh for me. The proliferation of military and para-military evolutions against civilians is troubling.
But we need to do something, so I guess I'm torn.

You could post a lot of signs saying it's a mine field, and then mark a "path" through it with white tape on either side and place another sign advising people to stay between the white lines, and not to stray over the lines into the "mine field." Then just pick them up at the other end of the path and bring them back to the border.RPB wrote:Land mine/mine field signs would be cheaper.
(No I'm not seriously saying place mines ... don't jump on me ... I didn't say mines ... I said signs .... you know signs work to prevent illegal activities ... look at the "Firearms Prohibited" gunbuster signs on banks and stores)
