Glad it worked out... I sure haven't seen much .380 around and JHPs are even harder to find it seems. Carters Country has PMC .380 90 grain FMJ but it's $28.97 a box of 50!

The good thing I've found about Ammo To Go is you'll likely receive it tomorrow.

380 ammo is the reason I got into reloading, I can reload 50 rounds of 90 grain JHP for around 7.00 a box. the reloading equipment has already paid for itself.

The ABC's of Reloading is sitting on the table next to me. Next book I plan to read for the very reason you cite above. If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did it cost you to get set up for reloading?

well guess i'm too slow. have two boxes (40 rounds) of Winchester Bonded PDX1 .380 that I'm not using (my Elsie Pea is loaded with Hornady Critical Defense). If anyone else is looking for some, make me a reasonable offer - I paid $25 per box at Academy a while back (ridiculous price, but thought I needed them then found my preferred Critical Defense the next week).

also have some Critical Defense .38 Special (now carrying +P in my J-frame - so don't need these).

I went the cheep route and bought all LEE equiptment, I havent got an exact total but with the tumbler, press, dies and other small necessaties, it was around 300.00 dollars. I have loaded about 1500 380's and at an estimated 20.00 savings per 50 rounds thats around 600.00 in savings just on 380. but I also reload 9mm, but I only save a little on that since 9mm is so cheap. unless you count the fact that it is 124 grain JHP then the savings goes up a little.

Mainly talkin about the crimp and case length. I was assuming he was someone new to handloading. That stuff may have come a long way since I got out of it. All I had was a micrometer and all I was handloading was .45 acp. I never had a problem but I was so careful that it took me forever to load a box.

Being retired, I have a lot of time to kill (or looking at it the other way, I have little time left )

I would like to learn reloading, but I hate learning from books alone. Does anyone know of any reloading classes in the DFW area. I know Bass Pro sometimes has mini 1 hour seminars, but I'd like a full course, so to speak. I realize the chances are slim, but thought I'd ask.

As for .380, I've been getting mine at my local gun shops, who are cheaper than the sellers of factory ammo at gun shows, and "most" online sellers, especially when you add shipping. I pay between $20 and $23 per 50 for FMJ. I will say that JHP is a bit cheaper on line though.

I just learned it from books and never had a problem. I've never heard of a class but maybe there is. If I ever get to retire I'm gettin back into it again.

Don't know if your gonna load for revolvers but one thing I learned the hard way that the books didn't tell me, too much crimp makes the case wear out quicker, split on the ends. So I said I'm gonna use less crimp. I went too far. Wouldn't have mattered much with .38 spec. but when I loaded up some for my .44 mag the cylinder locked up, couldn't even open it. The crimp holds the bullet in and the recoil from the 44 backed out some of the bullets still in the cylinder past the end of the cylinder. I don't remember how I got it out without damaging the gun but I remember it was a chore.
