I wish they catch these (do not have a word that accurately describes them) and they burn in hell!
Is this really what we are coming to?

Ooh, so if the owners of the flag weren't doing it right then the vandalism was justified? I suppose someone was just doing his patriotic duty, then.

Nobody protests the wars anymore, that went out of fashion around Nov. '08. Wars are now good, just, and well managed, nothing to protest here, move right along then, move along...AndyC wrote:Bet you it's some punk kids who think that they're doing their righteous bit in protest against the wars

Not everyone knows proper flag etiquette but being less than informed is in no way a justifiable reason for our nations flag to have been destructed in such a manor.
I'm not one to draw my heater unless absolutely needed but I think I may have been inclinded to do so if I saw someone setting something attached to house on fire.

Not knowing flag etiquette is no excuse but it does raise my hackles. Why doesn't our present day education system teach stuff like this?
When I was a kid, we were taught to sing the Star Spangled Banner and America (My Country Tis of Thee), salute the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance, to believe in God, and that all men are created equal. You talk to some kids today about this and many will just give you a blank puzzled look.
Argh!

My 5 year old grand daughter informed me when I was telling her about George Washington (on/about his birthday) that Barack Obama is the president. We're talking pre-school here.Oldgringo wrote:

If I understand the formal rules most of flag etiquette is out of date.Quahog wrote:Not knowing flag etiquette is no excuse but it does raise my hackles. Why doesn't our present day education system teach stuff like this?
We wouldn't fly a flag at a grave site because they aren't lit and the flags tend to get pretty tattered before someone takes it down.
Is patch ok? or a flag printed on our clothing. isn't wearing a flag on our person prohibited?
There are rumors going around about soldier dying for the flag. Having been a soldier I never met one willing to risk their life or well being for the flag. Although almost all would risk everything for their country, unit or fellow soldier.
Don't get me wrong I feel great joy pride when seeing a flag displayed.. but it's really OK to to have put some effort in it and come up short with the lighting.. It is the thought that counts after all.

I wouldn't be upset with an unlit flag at night. The US codes covering flag etiquette change over the years, and probably many of us never knew them all, or know of changes.
For example, there are many veterans who still believe they cannot render a military salute, while in civilian clothes, when the flag is being raised or lowered, or during the playing of the National Anthem, and place their hand over their heart instead.
